Warriors clobber Council Grove

Marion boys have 'best performance of season'

Marion Warriors had one of their best games of the year Feb. 25 when they defeated Council Grove there, 70-35.

"It was probably our best performance of the season," said Marion High School coach Rex Ostmeyer.

"We played well. We shot well. We played unbelievable defense, " he said. "They only had nine points at the half.

"If they got a shot, it was only one, and we used our defense to create some offense for ourselves," the coach added.

Ostmeyer said it was the first game of season where the boys truly played together as a group. "So, this was probably the most gratifying win for us."

The Warriors set the tone for the game despite the fact it was Council Grove's Senior Night and final regular season home game. Marion defeated Council Grove by two points earlier this season right before Christmas break.

"They're a good team, so it was a great win for us," Ostmeyer said.

One of the Warriors' leading players Jared Hett got in foul trouble early and sat out most of the game, but other members filled in.

"It was probably Tyler Stubenhofer's best game of the season, and Brian Bina and Alan Vogel played well," the coach said.

"After all the gut wrenchers, heartbreaking losses, and last second wins, this was a fun one," Ostmeyer said. "It hasn't been an easy year."
