Warriors compete at state track meet
Sophomore pole vaulter Casey Nelson finished fourth in the state track meet with a leap of 14 feet six inches.
Nelson set a personal record with a jump of 14 feet but four other competitors cleared the 14-6 bar. He and an athlete from Beloit tied for fourth. The first-place vault was 16 feet.
"It was great to watch for the casual fan and even better to watch when you had someone involved in the meet," said coach Grant Thierolf.
"Nelson has a great future ahead of him in this event and in track and field as a whole," Thierolf added.
Jessica DeForest and Gavin Moore each ran into stiff competition in the 3200-meter races. DeForest started off well but the pace was too fast.
"Jessica did an outstanding job for us for four years and was a great leader for our track team," Thierolf said.
Moore did not run much slower than his personal record but the race was too fast.
"He has two years ahead of him that look very promising. We look forward to watching his progress," Thierolf said.
