Warriors end season with loss at sub-state

The Marion Warrior volleyball team finished its season Oct. 25 at the sub-state volleyball tournament, falling to Riley County in three sets 18-25, 20-25, 15-12.

Despite the loss, head coach Ginger Robert said her team was prepared to play.

"(We knew) they were an athletic group of girls," Robert said of Riley County's team.

In the first game, Marion got an impressive start jumping out to an early lead.

But by the end of the first game, Riley County picked up momentum, started to come back, and eventually defeated Marion 25-18.

Riley County carried the same energy over into the second game, getting an early lead.

"We were forced to play catch-up the whole second game and came up short," Robert said of the 25-20 loss.

In the final game the two teams traded point-for-point, but down the stretch it was Riley County who came away with the 15-12 victory.

"I was very proud of my girls for how hard they played Saturday," Robert said. "I only wish we could have progressed further in the tournament for those seniors who have worked so hard to help build the program."

Despite the loss, the Warriors finished second in the Cottonwood Valley League with an 8-4 record overall.
