Warriors fall to Herington in final seconds

Marion High School boys' basketball team stumbled Friday against Cottonwood Valley League foe Herington, losing 54-58 despite leading for much of the game.

It was an exciting game for fans even if the ending was frustrating.

Herington jumped to a 2-8 lead in the first quarter. Marion scored the first basket but didn't score again until the 2:46 mark, when Brian Bina stole the ball, scored, was fouled, and hit the free throw. The quarter ended with the score 7-16.

The second quarter was different. Marion outscored Herington 21-10, with Braxton Skiles and Bina each scoring six points to lead Marion in the quarter.

Marion held a slim lead in most of the second half but Herington went up 54-56 on a three-point shot with 12 seconds to go in the game.

Bina led the team in scoring with 16 points. Skiles had 13. Robert Verbic was top rebounder with 8.
