Warriors participate in final CVL track meet
Marion High School Warriors participated May 14 in the final Cottonwood Valley League track meet.
Seniors Dallas Wells, Steven Boone, Tyler Smith, Sarah Regier, Jessica DeForest, and Yoon Lee performed like seasoned veterans.
"Tyler and Steven had a great set of competitions in the shot put and discus," said Marion head coach Grant Thierolf. "They have set the standard for our young throwers and look very strong going into the regionals at Cheney next week."
Adam Depler and Dale Vogel threw well and helped dominate the field. Regier and Amber Richmond also did exceptionally well and helped establish an early lead in the meet.
Wells led the sprint unit and they did well in a tough field. Casey Nelson placed in the 200 and 400.
"Erin Carr had one of her best days as a Warrior, placing in the 100, 200, and triple jump," Thierolf said.
DeForest led a strong distance corps into the meet.
"Jessica looks very strong going into the meet next week and we are excited with Gavin Moore and Jason Hett running for the boys' distance group," Thierolf said. "We will be very well represented at Cheney in the distance events."
Nelson and Erin Richmond dominated the pole vault event. Both may qualify for state. Josh Smith had his best day in the high jump.
The Warriors travel Friday to Cheney for the regional qualifying meet. Field events begin at 3 p.m. Running preliminaries start at 4:30 and running finals begin at 6 p.m.
