Warriors split twin bill with Sacred Heart
For Charlotte Waner it was the longest game she has been a part of during her tenure at Marion.
And the ending wasn't scripted as she might have planned.
The Warriors fell to the Sacred Heart Knights last Tuesday 4-3 in 15 innings of play.
"It was disappointing for us because we really wanted it bad," Waner said. "We lost but it was one of those games that you feel good about. I was proud of our girls despite the outcome."
Megan Moore went the distance in 15-inning ordeal. Despite the long stretch, Waner said Moore showed little sign of fatigue even in the late innings.
"There was one time when she pitched late in the game that she just fired the ball," Waner said. "We counted up that she must have thrown 175-200 pitches in the game. She's a great competitor."
The Warriors rallied back in game No. 2 to take an 11-3 win.
Marion was slated to face Hesston of Friday, but the game was postponed until May 9 because of foul weather.
