Warriors sweep Dragons off the court

Marion High School volleyball team won its first two Mid-Central Activities Association matches Sept. 13, with a sweep of Halstead.

MHS downed the Dragons 25-22, 23-25, 25-10, in the opening match.

After notching a close victory in game one, the Warriors were tied at 23 in game two after junior Erin Carr recorded a kill.

Marion then committed an error, and Halstead recorded a kill that bounced off the net and barely landed out of the Warriors' reach to claim the two-point victory.

"We started off a little sluggish," MHS head coach Kara Chisholm said. "But I was pleased with the way we bounced back."

The Warriors bounced back with a vengeance in game three, jumping out to a 9-0 lead.

Three Warriors recorded a kill during the run that essentially put the game away.

The big lead crushed Halstead's momentum, as the Warriors cruised to the 15-point victory.

Toni Gordon led MHS in kills on the day.

Chisholm was pleased with Gordon's play.

"She has really stepped up her game," she said of the senior. "I am very pleased with how aggressive she's been."

The Warriors played Tuesday at Smoky Valley, and play their final home matches Tuesday during senior parents' night against Collegiate.
