Warriors trounce Chase County

Marion High School boys basketball team played its game of the regular season Thursday defeating Chase County there, 78-46.

"This game was similar to the one we had two days before with Council Grove," said Marion Coach Rex Ostmeyer. "It was in their gym. It was their last home game, and they'd been playing awfully well. It was one of those games I was nervous we'd overlook. "

Ostmeyer needn't have worried. The Warriors easily had the upper hand through most of the contest.

"We did a good job of getting what we need to done. We executed well and we consistently scored points — 78 to be exact," he said.

Ostmeyer said the Warriors played with a great deal of confidence. That allowed the team to try things and have confidence they would work. "We never went through any lulls."

"There's an old adage that you want to peak during the right time of the year," he said. "I hope we can continue this through tonight (Tuesday). We had a slow start, but we finished fast."

Sub-state play was scheduled to begin Tuesday with the Marion boys hosting Lyons. However, due to inclement weather Tuesday afternoon, that game was rescheduled to 2 p.m. Wednesday, weather permitting.

"Lyons has lost five of their last six games, but they have a couple of dangerous players," Ostmeyer said. "If we can come out and continue to play like we have been we will prevail."
