Warriors win nail-biter against Trinity

The Marion High School boys' basketball team won a one-point nail biter Feb. 18 on the road against Wichita Trinity, 51-50.

"We didn't shoot well and we're down by six going into the fourth quarter," said MHS coach Rex Ostmeyer. "But then we scored 22 points in that final quarter."

With 20 seconds to go in the contest, Marion had a one point lead when they were fouled. Brian Bina made one free throw and the Warriors called time out.

"Plan B of our play worked," Ostmeyer said. "Tyler Stubenhofer caught the ball at half court and dribbled down, scoring a lay-up at the buzzer.

"It was his only field goal of the game," he said.

Offensively, the team did not shoot well. Defensively, the team did a good job.

"We got some easy baskets that got us going," the coach said.

Ostmeyer said he was pleased with the win, which the team obtained without the help of several top players including Jason Matz, who is out for the remainder of the season, Clayton Chamberland who is out with an ankle injury, and Tyler Smith, who was sick.

"It's always good when you can win on the road," Ostmeyer said. "It's always fortunate when you can get out of there with a win."
