Wedding: Kristin and John Farnsworth
Kristin Whitney Thies, daughter of Charlie and Stephanie Thies of Olathe and granddaughter of Peggy Thies of Salina and the late Dr. W.M. Thies, was married Sept. 28, 2002, to John Michael Farnsworth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Farnsworth of Spring Hill.
The ceremony took place at 8 p.m. in Marjorie Allen Powell Chapel, Kingsville, Mo. Pastor Sandy Seaba was the officiating clergyman. Pastor Seaba officiated at the wedding of the groom's parents 23 years ago.
Music for the service included a duet sung by Adam Thomas and Tina Furse of Olathe, high school friends of the bride and groom.
Candlelighters were Katie Thies, sister of the bride, and Matthew Mitchell of Edmond, Okla., cousin of the bride.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. She chose a white satin off-the-shoulder gown featuring a fitted bodice of seeded pearls and beads and a cathedral-length train. Her cathedral-length tulle veil was edged in rhinestones. She carried a nosegay of Tropicana and cream-colored roses. She had a penny in her shoe and a handkerchief that had belonged to her Great-grandmother Mullen.
Amy Herman of Olathe attended the bride as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were the bride's sister Chelsee Thies and the groom's sister Jenny Farnsworth. Katie Thies, also a sister of the bride, was junior bridesmaid. The attendants wore ankle-length gowns of coral satin featuring empire waists and carried nosegays of mixed flowers.
Amy Peterson of Spring Hill, Mo., was flower girl. Her white organza dress was trimmed with pink rosebuds and she wore a tiara of rosebuds in her hair.
The groom was attired in a black tuxedo with tails. Brian Burache of Overland Park was best man. Groomsmen were the groom's brother Matthew Farnsworth and his cousin Brian Kelly. Guests were seated by Chris Farnsworth of Manhattan and Mikey Kelly of Leawood, cousins of the groom. The men in the wedding party all wore black tuxedos.
Guest book attendant was Bridget Kelly of Leawood. Programs were distributed by Alee Mitchell of Edmond, Okla. Jessie and Katie Farnsworth of Bonner Springs were in charge of flower petals. All are cousins of the couple.
The reception was held at the Grand Hall Conservatory with music during a light lunch and for dancing.
Those attending the wedding included the bride's grandparents Peggy Thies, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Mullen of Marquette, and Patty Mullen, Wichita, and the groom's grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Jennings of Overland Park and Mr. and Mrs. John Farnsworth Sr. of Gardner. The grandparents were escorted to their seats by their grandsons in the wedding party.
Following a week's honeymoon cruise to the eastern Caribbean, the couple lives at 17420 S. Agnes Street, Gardner.
Rehearsal dinner
The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner which was held Sept. 26 at the Bristol Restaurant in Leawood.
The 35 guests in attendance included the groom's grandmother Peggy Thies and Paul Eberhard of Salina, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pensabene, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Prichard, Nicole Pensabene, and George Alamia, all of Holbrook, Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. and Mrs. Mackey Mitchell, Alee and Matthew of Edmond, Okla., and Mrs. Terry Slagle of San Antonio, Texas.
