WEDDINGS: Carrie and Jared Herzet

Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, St. Joseph, Mo., was the setting Oct. 6, 2001, for the wedding of Carrie Jean Pickard of St. Joseph, Mo., and Jared Ray Herzet of Marion. Fr. Michael Volkmer, CPPS, officiated at the 7:30 p.m. double ring ceremony.

Parents of the couple are Alan and Cindy Pickard of St. Joseph and Jim and Janet Herzet of Marion.

Lighting the candles preceding the ceremony were Angela Cox of Prairie Village, Mo., and Tina Wood of Olathe.

Music was provided by Tom Smith of St. Joseph, organist, and vocalist Matthew Tabor of Quincy, Ill., and Bonnie Haghirian of St. Joseph.

Given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a cathedral-length white satin strapless gown with fitted bodice and a full flowing skirt. Floral embroidery, sequins, and beads. accented the gown. Ribbon trimmed her fingertip-length veil with sequined bun wrap. She carried a full cascading bouquet of calla lilies, white wisteria and lilacs, and green ivy. Gold and white satin ribbon accented the arrangement.

Jenny Pickard attended her sister as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were the bride's cousin Carly Conroy of Springfield, Mo., Nadine Romano of Lawrence, Liz Weddle of Lenexa, Molly Cox and the bride's cousin Taylor Conroy of St. Joseph, Natalie Miller of Oklahoma City, the groom's sister Jenny Herzet of Marion, and Keisha Grosdidier of Manhattan. Their iridescent emerald green taffeta princess-style gowns were fashioned with bow accents at the back straps and A-line skirts with trains. Each carried a full cascade of ivory roses and wisteria, delicate apple blossoms, and green ivy accented with gold and ivory ribbons.

Brynna Riche of St. Joseph was flower girl. Ring bearers were Kaleb, Calvin, and Corban Montgomery, nephews of the groom. Ring bearer attendants were Jamie and Jessica Bernhardt of Marion, cousins of the groom.

Aaron Reiswig and Brendan Kraus of Manhattan served the groom as best men. Groomsmen were Michael Tabor and Matt Kendrick of Overland Park, Chuck Maggard of Topeka, Sean Devlin of Lenexa, Matthew Tabor of Quincy, Ill., Justin Howe of Columbia, Mo., and Lucas King of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Ushers were Jeff Geheb of Boston, Mass., Bill Lindquist of Overland Park, and Michael Nash and Paul Woolard of St. Joseph, Mo.

Melissa Streeter of St. Joseph and the groom's cousin Katie Guilfoyle of Manhattan were the guest book attendants and also were in charge of the gifts.

A reception was held in Moila Shrine Temple, St. Joseph, immediately following the ceremony. Reception attendants were Donna Bernhardt and Brenda Dawson of Marion and Lori Guilfoyle of Peachtree City, Ga., all cousins of the groom.

Following a cruise in the western Caribbean, the couple resides at 1010 Parkway Drive, Olathe.

The bride is a 1995 graduate of Bishop LeBlond High School. She received a bachelor's degree in speech-language-hearing from the University of Kansas and a master's degree in speech-language-hearing from KU in 2001. She is a speech-language pathologist in the Shawnee Mission school district.

The groom is a 1995 graduate of Marion High School and received a bachelor's degree in biology from Benedictine College, Atchison. He is a customer center supervisor at Daimler Chrysler Financial in Leawood.

Rehearsal dinner

Parents of the couple hosted the rehearsal dinner at 6 p.m. Oct. 5 at the D and G Restaurant in St. Joseph. A video of members of the wedding party was viewed.

Reception

A dinner-dance reception honoring the couple was held from 4 p.m. to 12 midnight Oct. 27 at the Marion Saddle Club.

The groom's cousins Jordan and Jacob Harper of Marion attended the guest book and received gifts.

Reception attendants, all cousins of the groom, were Julie Wiggans, Trisha Batemon, Ashlie Ecker, and Jamie Bernhardt.

Dinner servers were Sharon Ewing, Barbara Hanschu, Jenny Herzet, and Dennis and Janis Maggard.

Other servers were Keith and Mary Ann Conyers and Terry and Kathy Silhan.
