Weddings, royalty and otherwise
I admit I'm a royalty aficionado of the British royalty, that is. When Princess Di and Prince Charles got married and the wedding was shown at 3 a.m. on TV on that fateful day, what did I do? I had a party, inviting some friends in for the event. We watched it all and then I served breakfast. I had told them to come "as is" and most of them did. Gail Merrill wore a bona fide night shirt and night cap.
Princess Di was a favorite of mine. I guess I still have romance in my soul, ever since I was a little girl and dreamed of being Cinderella.
Anyway, the butler who not only served the queen but spent a good many years serving Princess Di and Prince Charles has written several books about his experiences. The last one I read is "A Royal Duty" by Paul Burrell. I didn't think I would read it as it would be the same old stuff. Surprisingly for the most part it is the story of the butler's life and the detailed life of being a servant for the royal family. I found it eye-opening and pretty interesting.
Speaking of weddings — I just attended a big family wedding. The bride and her attendants were beautiful and the groom and his attendants were handsome. I'm so glad marriage is again popular. Maybe all is not lost. I wish the summer brides and grooms much happiness. Starting a new life together is such an exciting challenge. I hope they remember that it is not 50-50 but often 90-10. Best wishes!
