Welden Warner

Welden C. Warner, 87, was born Oct. 16, 1915, at Oak Hill, the son of Leon and Isa (Beadleston) Warner.

He grew up in the Oak Hill community, attended Bouldin School as a child, and later graduated from high school at Longford.

He entered the Navy, served in the Southwest Pacific during World War II, and was discharged in 1946. Welden was a mechanic and operated an automobile repair business in Mulvane in partnership with George Larson for many years.

He also was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed making crafts. His family will treasure the many items he created. In his retirement he had a wood shop at his home in Marion.

On July 19, 1991 Welden and Billie Bedell were married in Marion.

Welden's health began to fail and just a few weeks ago he entered Marion Manor where he died July 11, 2003.

He is survived by his wife Billie of Marion; a daughter Sherilyn McMaster of Merritt Island, Fla.; a stepdaughter Gloria Helms of Chickasha, Okla.; three sisters, Leota Morehouse of San Antonio, Texas, Vona Curtis of Longford, and Vera Deines of Chapman; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Tuesday at Valley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kennedy Mukwindidza officiating. Keith Collett sang "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden" with Laura Williams as organist. Burial was in Marion Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established with the Valley United Methodist Church.
