Well done, faithful servant

Darrell and Ruth Miller of Smith Center have sold their four community newspapers after nearly a half century of service to their readers and towns.

Both are highly respected and regarded members of the Kansas fourth estate. Their newspapers are among the best.

Jack and Kathy Krier of Russell purchased the Miller papers. The Kriers are successful publishers who own more than a dozen operations across Kansas and Missouri.

They will continue to live at Russell, where they own the daily.

Jack commented, "In this day and age, in towns this size, very seldom is the newspaper sold to someone who will be residing in the town."

Darrel's editorial, "Thanks for the memories" was well thought out and carefully worded. He has "no regrets" at the half-century milepost. He'd do it again.

"One of the greatest satisfactions is putting together a newspaper that you hope will appeal to your readers . . . interesting pictures and lively feature stories to fill out the news that happens from week to week, and a few opinion pieces that you hope make sense. During all those years, the most exciting newspaper was the next one," Miller stated.

Well done, good and faithful servant.
