What it means
A city sales tax means Florence shoppers would pay a total of 7.3 cents on every dollar spent instead of the current 6.3 cents, if the one percent was approved.
Two cities in Marion County have a city sales tax.
Hillsboro has a city sales tax of .5 percent or a nickel for every dollar spent which was implemented in May 1985.
Marion has a city sales tax of .75 percent or 7.1 cents for every dollar spent which was put in place in July 2001.
Retail sales in July netted the City of Hillsboro $14,590 in sales tax revenue and the City of Marion $12,476.
Consumers pay 5.3 percent state and one percent county sales taxes.
The question will be on the Nov. 2 general election ballot for Florence residents to decide.
