Wilbur Evans
Wilbur C. Evans, 79, died June 6, 2002, at his home at Marion Reservoir.
He was born Oct. 9, 1922, at Blackwell, Okla., the son of Fred and Pearl (Radcliff) Evans. He grew up and attended school at Blackwell.
During World War II he served in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific theater as a heavy machine gunner. Evans was a retired welder for Koch Engineering at Wichita.
He was married to Hazel Evans on Aug. 3, 1965, at Wichita. Following his retirement, they made their home at Marion Reservoir where they enjoyed activities at the lake.
He is survived by his wife Hazel of the home; daughters Nina Horin of Fillmore, Calif., Kay McCain of Burrton, and Ann Evans of Las Vegas, Nev.; a stepson Wayne Olmstead of Wichita; a brother, Richard of Marion; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Monday morning at Zeiner Funeral Home of Marion. Chaplain Reta Joy Campbell officiated. Greg Carlson was the vocalist and Shirley Bowers the organist.
Serving as casket bearers were Howard McCain, Carrick McCain, Steven Nelson, Troy Warner, Tommie Warner, and Todd Alderdice.
The committal service was held Monday afternoon at Blackwell Cemetery, Blackwell, Okla., with military rites.
