Wildcats bring home league championship
Marion Middle School Wildcats played their basketball of the season when it mattered most and brought home the Cottonwood Valley Junior League Basketball Championship.
The Wildcats defeated Herington, 61-43, Saturday for the championship.
The Marion boys shot a hot 67 percent in the first quarter and 50 percent for the game.
"Herington kept up the full court pressure and made a run in the third quarter," commented Coach Kelly Robson. "But the Wildcats kept their poise and pulled away in the fourth."
Leading scorers for the Wildcats were Jason Hett with 24, Travis Hett with 18, and Chase Williams with 10.
Calvin Jeffrey handed out five assists while T. Hett had a season-high seven steals.

Chase County
Despite a sluggish start, the Wildcats pulled away Thursday to defeat Chase County in CVJL Tournament action at Independent. The Marion boys won the game, 43-32.
The Wildcats repeatedly worked the ball inside for close looks at the basket while forcing Chase County to shoot from long range.
Marion shot 53 percent for the game and held the opponent to 23 percent. Calvin Jeffrey ran the offense well, handing out a season-high six assists.
Leading scorers were Jason Hett with 13, Travis Hett with 10, and Calvin Jeffrey, 8.
