Wildcats claw Centre
Marion Middle School Wildcats defeated Centre Thursday night, 52-24, in their home-opener against the Cougars.
Marion's offense dominated the first, second, and fourth quarters. Three Wildcat rushers gained 100 yards in Marion's only scheduled 8-man contest of the year.
Calvin Jeffrey rushed five times for 100 yards, Austin Hager carried the ball 10 times for 105 yards, and Justin Jacobson rushed five times for 204 yards.
According to head coach Steve Janzen, the trio of Wildcat ramblers had key blocks from individuals like Brett Billings, John Goering, and Jacob Czarnowsky.
Jim Darrow's defense was again in top form. All 32 Wildcats got to play defense.
Zach Helmstead, Adam Trapp, Hager, and Jacobson all compiled six tackles each.
"When your defensive ends and linebackers are making all of the tackles, things are going well." Janzen said.
Chase Carlson, Logan Richmond, and Derek Riggs each had five tackles in the win, while Jeffrey had four tackles. Czarnowsky finished with three tackles. Mitch Leppke, Hank Collett, John Goering, Matt Thierolf, and Hunter Spencer each had a pair of tackles. Bryce Suffield and Zane Fine each had one.
