Wildcats edge Trojans

Marion Middle School Wildcats edged the Hillsboro Trojans Thursday, 26-18.

Austin Hager was the Wildcat "horse" for the evening, carrying the ball 23 times. With his 136 yards rushing, Hager scored three of the four touchdowns. Hager also punted four times for 135 yards, caught the only pass reception for 10 yards, and collected 21 tackles.

Justin Jacobson, nursing an injury, had one carry for 22 yards. Quarterback Calvin Jeffrey had three carries for a yard.

Bryce Suffield opened the game up with nine seconds to go in the first half with a 27-yard touchdown run. Jacob Czarnowsky threw the key block, allowing Suffield to score. Suffield also caught the lone extra point attempt.

Defensively, Marion bent several times but put a stop to Hillsboro with 30 seconds left in the contest.

Hager collected 21 tackles, Jeffrey 14, Derek Riggs 13, Czarnowsky nine, John Goering eight, Hank Collett and Jacobson seven each, Zach Helmstead five, Suffield four, Adam Trapp three, and Brett Billings two.
