Wildcats railroad Railers
After a sputtering start in the first part of Thursday's game, the Marion Middle School Wildcats defeated Herington 46-8.
For a short time, the Wildcat offense struggled to score, as the team trailed the visiting Railers 8-6.
But the Wildcats were not off track long.
In as little as 24 carries the Wildcat offense rushed for 303 yards. Quarterback Calvin Jeffrey, halfbacks Justin Jacobson and Austin Hager ran the option to perfection. Jacobson rushed 12 times for 165 yards, including three touchdowns.
On one of the three touchdowns, Jacobson took a punt 58 yards into the endzone.
Jeffrey rushed seven times for 91 yards and two touchdowns, including an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 44-yard interception for a touchdown.
Hager finished with 47 yards on five carries and two touchdowns.
According to head coach Steve Janzen, Derek Riggs, Brett Billings, Hank Collett, and Jacob Czarnowsky all did a "superb" job blocking for the running Warriors.
Hager and Jacobson led the Warrior defense with eight tackles a piece. Billings had six, Collett had five, Jeffrey, Riggs, Trapp, Czarnowsky each had three, Zach Helmstead had two, and Mitch Leppke, Chase Carlson, John Goering, and Zane Fine each had a tackle.
The Wildcats are now 2-0 and travel to Chase County Thursday for an all-important league match-up.
