Wildcats win first game
Marion Middle School captured its first win of the season Thursday against Ellinwood, 20-6.
Derek Riggs carried the ball 14 times for 101 yards and one touchdown.
Mitchell Leppke added 74 yards rushing, including a 52-yard touchdown run.
Seventh grader Nick Klenda added the final score with a fourth-quarter touchdown. Klenda finish with nine carries for 66 yards.
Leppke also completed four passes through the air for 63 yards. Luke Gordon connected on two two-point conversion passes.
Klenda led the defense with 13 tackles. Gave Moore added 11 tackles, and Eric Vogel chipped in with 10.
Ellinwood did not have enough players for a seventh-grade game, leaving the Wildcats with a 3-0 record. The eighth grade team improves to 1-3.
Marion will play host to Halstead Thursday.
