William McMullen

William H. McMullen, 84, Burlington, died Oct. 13, 2002, at K.U. Medical Center, Kansas City.

Born Aug. 26, 1918, southwest of Burlington, he was the son of John P. and Matilda L. Weide McMullen.

He graduated from Burlington High School is 1936, was a farmer and a stockman, an avid bowler and pool player, and in younger years played baseball.

A long time member of the Burlington United Methodist Church, he was a member and Past Master of Cola Hill Grange, transferring his membership to Neosho Valley Grange when Cola Hill closed, and had received a 65-year pin from the Grange. He was a member of AF&AM, Hebron Lodge #314.

McMullen served on the Cola Hill School Board and the USD 244 school board in Burlington, the Big Creek Watershed board for more than 40 years where he was the current president, and the Neosho Township board for many years.

He married Helen L. Birk on Jan. 6, 1942, at Burlington. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant grandson, Travis Salava. Other survivors include two daughters, Mary Levering and husband Dan of Marion, and Linda Salava and husband Jim of Burlington; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at United Methodist Church, Burlington. Burial was at Big Creek Cemetery, southwest of Burlington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital.
