Wimmer earns curriculum awards at KAAE conference

Cary Granzow and Gaea Wimmer, agriculture teachers at Centre High School, attended a conference Jan. 26-28 at Garden City for members of the Kansas Association of Agriculture Educators (KAAE).

Wimmer entered curriculum in the Ideas Unlimited competition and received third place in the FFA division, and first and second in the curriculum division.

Her food science curriculum was named overall winner and will represent Kansas in regional competition.

The instructors attended various workshops that included topics on integrating math, science, and language arts standards set by No Child Left Behind into their agricultural education curriculum.

Other workshops presented new teaching strategies to increase student achievement.

Attendees also went on area agricultural tours and participated in hands-on activities which can be incorporated into ag classrooms.
