Wind farm criteria concerns county commission

Valuation figures reflect an increase since July

County clerk Carol Maggard reported county valuation had increased more than $161,000 from July to November.

The November evaluation will be $95,166,828, Maggard said, adding budgets were set on the lower amount which was good news for the commission.

In November 2003, the county valuation totaled $91,462,319.

The commission approved the following:

— a chemical bid for the noxious weed department. Ag Service of Hillsboro had the low bid of $7,702 for 100 gallons of Tordon. Markely's Service of Marion also submitted a bid total of $7,985.

— a transport fuel bid for road and bridge department. Cardie Oil Company of Tampa had the low bid of $14,016 for 4,000 gallons of diesel and 4,000 gallons of unleaded fuel. Cooperative Grain and Supply of Hillsboro also presented a bid in the amount of $14,170.

It was noted fuel costs had increased nearly $2,000 since the transport bid for the same locations in August.

— a $1,000 bid for gutter guard on the county jail building. New guttering previously was approved for the building.

In other business

— Acting county road superintendent Jim Herzet reported the completion of the Indigo Road overlay project will be this week.

— Brazil presented September budget expenses for the departments he supervises.

The planning and zoning budget was at 54 percent, environmental health 72 percent, and transfer station 72 percent.

— Brazil also reported 18.88 tons of refuse received at the transfer station during the month of September.

— The commission acknowledged a letter from a Marion County Park and Lake resident regarding the placement of lighting for the Civilian Conservation Corps statue. The letter will be forwarded to Helen Beckham and Dale Snelling.

— Maggard reported the county's experience rating was .93. The rating dictates the county's workers' compensation premium for the next year. A rating under 1.00 is favorable.

— Brazil reported bid notices were sent for improvements at the transfer station with no responses. He has called several contractors to request bids.

— The commission recessed for a 10-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel with county attorney Susan Robson in attendance. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday in the courthouse.
