Wind farms may be coming

My better half and I took a short road trip last week to Colorado to visit Don's brother, Bob.

On our way, we traveled on U.S.-50 through Speerville. We were extremely impressed by the wind turbines on the edge of that town. The turbines were right along the highway, very visible. It was really quite an impressive sight.

On our return trip via I-70, we saw what appeared to be the development of wind turbines in Lincoln and Ellsworth counties. We also saw signs in Ellis County that protested such developments.

When it's all said and done, we have to look at alternative means of fuel and energy. Why not harness the wind? I can think of other things that cause more pollutants than wind turbines.

I sure was glad to see Dr. Randy Claassen come forward in support of a countywide hospital.

I have been concerned about the length of time two hospitals in two communities in a county of 13,000 people can be supported.

Let's just hope our communities can set aside differences and come to a reasonable consensus.

OK. For those of you who can recall my ranting last summer after I returned from a vacation about people driving and talking on cell phones, I have to admit that I have become "one of them."

Recently I became a member of the 21st century and obtained a cell phone. Now I find myself driving and talking on the telephone, just like everyone else.

I haven't quite perfected driving, talking, and eating a sandwich but give me time.
