Winifred Conyers

Winifred Louise (Nelson) Conyers, 93, died May 4, 2003, at St. Luke Living Center, Marion.

"Winnie," as she was known to countless friends, was born Dec. 8, 1909, in Aulne. She graduated from Marion High School, then obtained normal teaching credentials from Tabor College and upon graduation became a teacher at Sunflower school.

She married Clarence Conyers in 1934. For 23 years they successfully farmed land south of Marion. In 1955 they moved to Marion to live and opened a small nursery and plant business. Winnie became interested in floral design; she found this field challenging and opened Conyers Flowers which they operated for many years.

She was an active member in Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion Senior Center, Missionary Society, Order of Eastern Star, Ourslerites EHU, Sunflower 4-H leader, and also enjoyed pinochle club, quilting, needlework, cooking, and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Conyers; a daughter Marilyn Ann Conyers; her parents Chris and Mary (Rasmussen) Nelson; three brothers, Charles Nelson, Harry Nelson, and Earl Nelson; and a sister Anna (Nelson) White.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Conyers of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Kris Andrew and husband Walt of Palmdale, Calif.; one son Keith Conyers and wife Mary Ann of Marion; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Eastmoor United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday.

A memorial has been established at St. Luke Living Center.
