Winifred Meyers
Winifred "Winnie" Killian Meyers, 94, of Topeka, passed away July 14, 2006, at the Brewster Place Skilled Care Unit.
She was born Jan. 25, 1912, in Topeka, the daughter of Charles and Winifred (Clarke) Killian.
She attended Topeka public schools and graduated from Washburn College in 1933. While at Washburn, she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority and a member of the Pi Gamma Mu honorary social science fraternity.
On June 30, 1933, she married Allen Meyers. The couple resided in Topeka, where Mr. Meyers was an attorney of the Meyers, Gault, Marshall and Hawks Law Firm.
Winifred was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral. She served on the boards of the Girl Scouts, the TB Association, and the Ingleside Home, and was a member of the Stormont-Vail Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Social Services for Topeka State Hospital and Grace Episcopal Cathedral. She also served as president of the Junior League of Topeka.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 1975; a sister, Dorothy Guettel; and brothers, Howard and William Killian.
Survivors include her son, Allen Meyers, Jr., of Marion; two grandsons, Todd (Kim) Meyers of Shawnee and Michael (Anita) Meyers of Alvin, Texas; three great-grandsons, Dustin, Tucker, and Clay Meyers of Shawnee; and two nieces, Sara Guettel-Reiser of Dallas, Texas, and Winifred Wilson of Ventura, Calif.
Mrs. Meyers was cremated. A private memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2006, at Grace Episcopal Cathedral with inurnment to follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Brewster Place at a later date.
