Wow! It's a small world

Wow! I hear that expression on almost every occasion. Does it mean something? I heard a preacher say it meant "walking on water." I guess it could mean "wonder of wonders." What do you think?

Not long ago on the travel page of The Wichita Eagle, there was a beautiful picture of Lake Como in Italy. I can speak from experience of its beauty, lying between huge mountains all around it. My friends and I took a boat out to a small island in the lake. It was a chilly day so we ordered hot chocolate in the tiny café there.

Another couple joined us and in our visiting we learned that he was the rabbi of Amsterdam. His wife was quite friendly so she and I decided to write to each other. She wrote wonderful letters about her large family. They were scattered all over the world. One couple lived in New York City and when she visited them she would call me. I always had hopes that she might come to Kansas.

I did see her again, years later when I was in Amsterdam. She invited me to tea in her apartment. Her husband had died but a daughter and husband were there. They lived in Africa and invited me to come there with their mother some time. I wish I could have. One day I received a letter all outlined in black. It was from her daughter in New York, telling me of her death.

My grandson Kenny Burk, who lives in Colorado and works for the government, has something to do with animal inspection. The other day he stopped at a place where there were some horses. He visited with the woman who owned them and found that she was formerly from Marion. It was Lucinda Hauser Reed. They had a good visit. She was so excited she had to call me — fun.
