The Marion High School wrestling team competed in two events this past week. The Warriors defeated Haven Thursday 39-36, but fell to Minneapolis 56-16. The team then competed Saturday at the Herington Wrestling Tournament with several positive results.

In the match against Haven, the Warriors picked up several key victories in the individual events to take home a three-point win.

"We really fought hard for this dual," head coach Chad Adkins said. "The kids gave it everything they had and we came out on top."

Winners from the Haven dual include: Riley Ross won by forfeit; Chelsea Arnhold won by forfeit; Ben Leppke defeated Eric Coble 6-0; Jordan Trapp defeated J.R. Harper 3-0; Steven Boone defeated Zac Towns 6-0; Dallas Wells defeated Daniel Keller 6-0; and Drew Looper defeated Nathan Tate 6-0.

In their match against Minneapolis, the Warriors came up short against a strong wrestling team, according to Adkins.

"Minneapolis looked pretty tough," Adkins said. "All of their kids were very consistent. We didn't wrestle as well as we did in the first dual."

Winners from the Minneapolis dual include: Ross won by forfeit; Casey Nelson defeated Jake Murry 6-3; and Boone defeated Jonathan Schmidt 6-0.

Herington

In the Herington Tournament, Boone finished second in the 171-pound division with one loss and two wins and Arnhold claimed third in the 112-pound division with three wins and a loss.

"This is a very good tournament," Adkins said. "We get the opportunity to see some very good competition from Class 4A, as well as Class 3A. We wrestled great today. Arnhold placed third, and wrestled her best tournament ever. And our young kids wrestled well today."

The Warriors will travel Friday to Halstead for the Halstead Invitational wrestling tournament, before heading to Eureka Jan. 24 for the Eureka Invitational.
