Writer reports busy week at county lake

By TOOTSIE SNELLING

I sold several lake permits last week and even had a tube floater out on the lake. But all that has changed since we got dumped on with snow. What a change — today in the teens and last week it was almost 70! But remember, this is Kansas!

They were catching some nice crappie out of the heated dock on meal worms, but haven't been any fishermen Sunday or Monday since it snowed.

Please refer to us as "Snellings' Moving, Catering and Babysitting Company." Just kidding! We helped move the Lewmans from Florence to Sedgwick Friday and Saturday. I decided it would be easier to keep the 2- and 4-year-olds at my house so they wouldn't be in the way of the movers. I also cooked lunch and supper for the gang. Almost everything was moved on Friday, with small stuff and cleaning up left for Saturday. Mark's dad, Jake, came from St. Louis, Mo., to help along with Mark's brother John, Brandi Lewman, and Kristy Hess from Marion. Leann and I worked most of Saturday on the kitchen — emptying boxes and putting things away. She probably won't be able to find anything, but at least it was out of the boxes and in the cupboards. The kids have a lovely new home on the outskirts of Sedgwick which we know they will enjoy as soon as they get settled in. We all were a little sore from all the lifting and carrying, but really glad we got it done before the snow came.

The Sport, Boat and Travel Show was Wednesday through Sunday at the Kansas Coliseum. Dale worked the show Wednesday and Thursday evening and Kenny and Nancy worked it Friday afternoon and evening and part of Saturday so that Dale could help move. Dale went down Sunday and got caught in the snow storm. It took him two hours to get home and he saw some bad wrecks on I-35 before getting here. He said he could only drive 25 to 30 mph, but people were passing him doing 50 to 60 mph and they wonder why they end up in the ditch!

Annie Hanschu celebrated her 95th birthday Feb. 21st. I, along with Sherry Hess, Karly, Molly, and Emmy and Kiana and Levi Lewman hosted a party for her at the September Apartments. Cake and punch was served to the residents there. Her sister Dorothy and husband Woody Wilson from Potwin and niece Delores and Gary Wilhite from Sterling also came to help her celebrate. Thanks to all who sent her cards, she really enjoyed reading them.

Sunday was Danny's birthday and Tammy, Tristen, and Seth treated him to dinner at Kingfisher's Inn and invited me along. Afterward we came back here for cake. Dean just happened to come by to visit so he got in on the cake, too. We saved a piece for Dale to enjoy when he got back from the boat show.
