You decide
Pay special attention to the reports of Marion City Council printed elsewhere in this issue. Things are happening in city government.
In a few weeks Marion voters will go to the polls to select two new city council members. Voters should attend a few city council meetings to see how decisions are made. Attending meetings will help voters make informed decisions at the polls and show them how the current council operates.
After reading the reports in this issue, a few questions spring to mind:
— If the council will be making decisions about variances, what is the purpose of the board of zoning appeals?
— Is the council listening to residents of Jex Addition who are concerned about truck traffic in their neighborhood?
— Is it really a wise use of taxpayer dollars to have city crews clearing streets after a half-inch snowfall?
— Should the city go ahead with bathrooms at the baseball complex without giving the issue proper consideration?
All these issues were discussed Monday evening at the regular city council meeting. What's not included here are the verbal exchanges that occurred between council members, city staff, and the public.
We've elected these council members to take care of the business of our town. Are they doing a good job? Do they have the training and knowledge needed to make important decisions? You decide. Attend a city council meeting. See what's happening with our city government.
