Becky and Tim Makovec entertained some of Morgan's friends Saturday afternoon in honor of her ninth birthday. Invited guests were Erin, Chelsea, Becca, Caycee, Monica, Corey, Kandace, Kassady, and Tyler. Family members who came to the Makovec home to Saturday evening to help Morgan celebrate were Vicki Smolik, Kathy and Paul Swan, Faye and Jerry Makovec, Justin and Katrina Griffin, Kandace and Kassady, Joe and Aaron Makovec, and Dwayne and Delores Stroda of Herington.
Edmund Steiner and Vicki Smolik went to Wilson Sunday and attended the Czech dinner and dance at the Opera House.
Jackie Hett, who bowls with the Pizza Hut team, bowled in the tournament Saturday and Sunday at Hillsboro.
Leonard and Merlie Friesen visited Tuesday afternoon with Leonard and Rosalie Klassen. Kelly Sorenson came on Wednesday to help his grandfather with some work and ate dinner with Leonard and Rosalie Klassen.
Charles Kjellin is now in a swing bed at St. Luke Hospital and is improving each day. Karen Kelly of Springfield, Mo., came Saturday to visit her dad and spent the night with Mary Beth and Greg Bowers. She returned home Sunday.
Jeannine Bateman spent five days this past week in Topeka attending County Government and County Treasury meetings. Kristine Bateman was home for the weekend visiting with her mother Jeannine.
Shirley and David Bowers and Greg and Mary Beth Bowers attended the Kiwanis banquet Monday evening at Eastmoor church. Shirley and several people from Eastmoor went to a leadership meeting Sunday afternoon at the Church of the Cross in Salina.
Shirley and David Bowers hosted a Saturday birthday dinner for Daniel and Kim Bowers, Amber, Bruce, and Breanna, Doug and Janelle Paden, Matthew, Abigail, and Jonathan, Bev and Kevin Jennison, and Greg Bowers and Rhonny.
Emily and Marj Johnson surprised me Sunday afternoon with a visit. They hadn't been here since Christmas so it was great getting to visit with them.
Marlene O'Neal of Junction City paid a surprise visit Sunday afternoon to Dorothy Hayen. Virginia Downing visited with Marlene while Dorothy was eating lunch.
Roseva McLinden attended the funeral services Thursday for Fern Waggy in Florence.
Sarah and Rachel Davidson participated Saturday in the forensics tournament at Goessel. Sarah played piano Saturday at the state music festival and earned a first place ribbon. Congratulations Sarah. We know it took many hours of private practice to play well enough to earn that honor. Rose Davidson, Sarah and Rachel attended the 50th wedding anniversary reception Sunday honoring Gilbert and Phyllis Turk at Marion Catholic hall and they furnished music for the Mass at Pilsen honoring the Turks.
Cy Goertz ate Sunday dinner with Clint and Diana Jost.
