Youngtown: Bowers family attends Just wedding

Todd and Crystal Just were married Saturday afternoon in Salina. Rick Just, father of the groom, assisted with the ceremony. Shirley Bowers, Bev Jennison, Betsy Bunnel, and Janelle Paden helped Mary Lou Just cook and serve the rehearsal dinner Friday evening. Family members, other then the Rick Just family, attending the wedding were David and Shirley Bowers, Greg and Mary Beth Bowers, Rhonny, Steven, and Luke, Beverly and Kevin Jennison and Cheryl, Randy and Betsy Bunnel, Joshua and Kelli, Brian and Shelinda Bowers, Doug and Janelle Paden, Matthew, Abigail, and Jonathan, and Daniel and Kim Bowers, Amber, Bruce, and Breanna. The Bowers family spent the weekend in a hotel. They had a Christmas gift exchange in the hotel breakfast room following the early Sunday morning church service.

A reception was held at St. Mark's Activity Center Saturday evening for Bishop Thomas Olmstead and again Sunday morning at the Florence and Pilsen churches. Youngtown people reporting they attended the Saturday evening reception were Marie Navrat, Ray and Rita Kraus, Don and Vickie Kraus, Rose Davidson and Rachel, and Christine Schwarz. Greg Davidson and Sarah attended at Florence Sunday morning.

Rose and Greg Davidson, Rachel and Sarah held a surprise birthday party Saturday night for Christine Schwarz. They invited high school friends and had a lot of fun hiding all the cars and kids. Christine was really surprised when they returned from town to find everyone there.

Sarah Davidson went to a debate Saturday and qualified for State. Rose's sister, Michelle Lopez, was a houseguest of the Davidson family this weekend.

LaVerne Hoffman returned to California on Wednesday following a week's visit with his mother, Alvina Hoffman.

Leonard and Rosalie Klassen hosted a New Year's Skipbo party Tuesday night. Guests were Ray and Eleanor Davidson, Cy and L.Dena Goertz, and Shirley and David Bowers.

LaVerne and Joyce Funk of Hillsboro were Thursday supper guests of Leonard and Rosalie Klassen.

Pat Navrat spent Friday with her mother, Marie Navrat.

Mrs. Bob Turner called at the home of Roy and Rose Olive Hett Monday and delivered a Christmas fruit cake. She has done this for several years. They enjoyed her visit.

John and Dorothy Hayen joined Virginia Downing, Marilyn Geis, and Max and Donna Hayen for lunch Saturday noon at the Pizza Hut. Max and Donna have just returned from Georgia and shared stories of their trip with the family. Brent and Paula Hayen ate supper with Dorothy and John Saturday night. Virginia Downing, John, and Dorothy attended church at Eastmoor Sunday morning and ate dinner together at the Chuck Wagon at Florence.

Jeannine Bateman attended the mountain oyster fry Tuesday evening hosted by Ken and Margie Nienstedt. Jeannine visited her mother Alvina Skibbe in Newton Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Loren Cox of Newton visited Roseva McLinden Sunday afternoon. Richard and Patty McLinden called on Roseva Sunday evening and took her out to supper.

Cy and L.Dena Goertz attended church at Eastmoor, then drove to Burdick to pick up Clint and Diana Jost. They took them to Hayes House in Council Grove to celebrate Clint's birthday.

Skip Sieger and Lynn Applegate flew to Ponca City Saturday for the monthly fly-in.

Chris and Lesley Allen left for home a day early and missed the big snow storm in Illinois.

Mary Beth and Greg Bowers attended the SOAR all-church party Tuesday evening at Eastmoor.

The weather here was good throughout the holidays, making for safe traveling for all the family who came home for Christmas.

Jeannine Bateman and Kristine have returned from Orlando, Fla., where they spent Christmas. They enjoyed blooming roses in Florida and all the Disney events and returned to snow and ice in Kansas.

Vicki Smolik hosted her Christmas dinner with guests Kathy and Paul Swan, Tim and Becky Makovec, Morgan and Tyler, Justin and Katrina Griffin, Kandace and Kassidy, and Edmund Steiner.

Tim and Becky Makovec and Morgan hosted a birthday party Friday night for Tyler. Invited guests were Kathy and Paul Swan, Jerry and Faye Makovec, Joe and Aaron Makovec, Justin and Katrina Griffin, Kandace and Kassidy, Vicki Smolik, and Edmund Steiner.

Glen and Pam Hett, Samantha and Kyle entertained with a dinner in their home Christmas evening. Guests were Morgan Hett, Roy and Rose Olive Hett, and Wanda and George Coe.

Brian and Shelinda Bowers, Jordan and Paige were Sunday visitors of David and Shirley Bowers. David and Shirley visited Doug and Janelle Paden and family in Newton Saturday. The Bowers took part in the community sing-along Sunday night at Eastmoor church.

L.Dena and Cy Goertz entertained at noon Christmas Eve at their home. Guests were David and Jessye Goertz and Rachel from Nebraska, Diana and Clint Jost, Beth Wybert, and John Jost. Diana and Clint Jost hosted the Goertz Christmas dinner Christmas Day. Their guests were Cy and L.Dena Goertz, John and James Jost, and Beth Wybert.

Chris and Lesley Allen came to the Sieger farm Dec. 24 to celebrate Christmas. They drove on to Topeka to celebrate with Chris' family and returned to the Siegers this past weekend. Eileen and Skip hosted a sixth wedding anniversary party on Saturday honoring Chris and Lesley.

Skip and Eileen Sieger, June Jost, Dave Thomas, and Mike and Gayle Thomas attended funeral services for Bud McLinden Thursday at the Florence Catholic church.

Leon and Cate Hayen, Virginia Downing, Marilyn Geis, and Jackie and David Magee brought Christmas dinner to John and Dorothy Hayen on Tuesday. Dorothy, John, and Brent and Paula Hayen ate Christmas dinner at the Chuck Wagon in Florence.

Jackie and David Magee visited Virginia Downing from Monday through Friday of last week.

Charles and Rosalene Stinchcomb drove to Solomon Friday to visit Mike and Emma Stinchcomb.

Ron and Sheila Ireland, Katie and Kevin from Missoula, Mont., came Monday to celebrate Christmas with me. Emily Johnson also arrived Monday and spent the night with us before returning to Wichita to work both Christmas Day and Christmas Eve. Marj and Joe Johnson and Ethan joined us for dinner Christmas Eve and the candlelight services at Eastmoor. A gift exchange and dessert followed the church service. We ate Christmas breakfast together, then the Montana Irelands drove to Lawrence to have Christmas with Sheila's family and the Johnsons returned to Wichita to celebrate with Wilma and I.C. Johnson. We all gathered in Wichita on Sunday to share another meal and see Ron's family off to Montana.

Jo Gearheart and I attended a funeral service for our cousin, Pauline Turley, Saturday morning at Woodland Methodist Church. Jo and I were guests of the family of David Elliot to help him celebrate his 75th birthday at the Shrine building Saturday afternoon.

Greg and Mary Beth Bowers, Rhonny, Steve, and Luke hosted dinner for the Kjellin family on Christmas Eve. Guests were Charles Kjellin, Karen and Dale Kelly, Shalene, David, and Mark from Springfield, Steve Gauthier from Denver, Pat and Daryl Enos and Mitch, Jennifer and Chris Sauerwein from Newton, and Doug and Amy Kjellin, Erik, Andrew, and Adam from McPherson.

Pat and Daryl Enos and Mitch opened their home for the Kjellin Christmas dinner and were joined by most of the above family members and their aunt and uncle, Phyllis and Gene Dettmer, for a soup dinner on Christmas Day.

Greg and Mary Beth Bowers, Rhonny, Steve, and Luke hosted Sunday dinner to Rob and Kris Lyon, John and Allison.

Laverne Hoffman is here from California visiting his mother Alvina Hoffman this week. He will return home New Year's Day.

Christmas week visitors at the Howard Collett farm were Randy and Rachel Collett, Maggie and Zack, David and Dianna Hammond, Chris and Carrie Parazin, Keith and Anne Collett, Hank, Lucy, and Caroline, Rick and Collette Erickson, Katie and Liz, Don Argo, and Doug and Nancy Hammond. Rita and John Spinden from Cottonwood Falls were Thursday night supper guests of the Colletts. Sunday night visitors of Howard and Beth were Keith and Anne and family and Anne's parents, Dr. Ken and Ruth Grey from Galva, Iowa.

Faye and Jerry Makovec had their Christmas at Jeff's new home near Halstead. Other guests were Joe and Aaron Makovec, Donita and Gary Turk, Adam, Brian, and Chelsea, and Tim and Becky Makovec, Morgan and Tyler.

Christmas houseguests of Greg and Rose Davidson were Sunny and Rae Mona Herman and Michelle Lopez. Christmas dinner was enjoyed by the above-mentioned and Rose's brother David Herman from Wichita, Christine Swartz, Rachel and Sarah. Rose took the girls shopping the day after Christmas. Rose entertained her St. Mark's altar society with coffee and snacks Sunday afternoon. Guests were Vickie Kraus, Vicki Smolik, Faye Makovec, Madonna Schafers, Mary Costello, Janet Marler, Doris Winkler, Elsie Bezdek, Patsy Waner, and Peg Edwardson. Rose and Greg hosted their card group Sunday night. Guests were Norma Woerz and Dalene Tharp.

Youngtown FCE members attending funeral services for Bud McLinden at Florence Catholic church Thursday morning were LuCretia Winkley, Gertie Maloney, Betty Ireland, Darlene Schmidt, and Margaret Ireland.

Leonard and Rosalie Klassen were in Wichita from Friday through Sunday night. While there, they celebrated Christmas with Vickie and Marv Fisher, Ashley, Aaron, and Allegra and Cora Sorenson, Kami, Kelsie, Kelly, and Keaton. They also celebrated Allegra's birthday and saw her baptized at Sunday morning church services. On Dec. 17, Leonard and Rosalie attended the first band concert in which Aaron played his trumpet. They attended the Christmas program in which Ashley played the part of Mary. Rosalie was a guest of Joyce Kellison at her open house at the county lake on Friday.
