Youngtown: Bowers has booth at Art in the Park

Mary Beth Bowers spent the past two weeks working on dry wild flower arrangements and wreaths in her Dad's barn and had her booth again Saturday at Art in the Park. Her aunt, Phyllis Dettmer from Kansas City, came Friday and helped her with her booth, returning home Sunday morning.

Greg Bowers and Luke, and Leonard Klassen were in Kansas City Friday night through Saturday night with Promise Keepers. They were among 19 men from Marion who attended. They heard music sung by the huge choir of men attending.

Ben and Natasha Bowers and Skyler from Anchorage, Alaska, are coming Thursday to visit family and attend Old Settlers' Day this weekend. Grandpa Greg and Grandma Mary Beth are looking forward to the visit.

Skip and Eileen Sieger were in Wichita Thursday night at Century II hearing astronaut Eugene Cerman share his flight experiences. He went to the moon on Apollo 17. They went to the Aviation Festival Friday night at McConnell Air Force Base for the night airshow featuring pyrotechnics in the sky emanating from the planes. Eileen reported it to be quite spectacular.

Eileen Sieger and Jeannine Bateman enjoyed Art in the Park together Saturday.

Dorothy Hayen called to say her son Leon Hayen had undergone knee surgery Wednesday in Topeka and is recovering nicely.

Vicki Smolik and Edmund Steiner went to Emporia Friday and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Gutsch. In the evening, they attended a Mexican supper at Sacred Heart School. Their granddaughter Kandance Griffin attends school there and sold Vicki the tickets. Kathy and Paul Swan also were at the supper.

On Saturday, Kathy Swan, Vicki Smolik, Katrina Griffin and Kandace and Kassidy and Becky Makovec and Morgan attended Art in the Park.

Justin and Katrina Griffin and girls, Vicki Smolik and Becky and Tim Makovec, Morgan and Tyler were Saturday dinner guests of Kathy and Paul Swan.

Shirley Bowers attended the opening meeting Tuesday of the Athena Club with a luncheon at the Old Town Restaurant in Hillsboro.

Bev and Kevin Jennison and Kim Bowers, Bryce and Breanna met Shirley and David Bowers at Beto Junction for dinner Sunday noon.

Shirley Bowers helped with the potato bar booth for Eastmoor church Saturday at Art in the Park.

Jackie Hett attended the Svitak and Stimpson outdoor wedding Saturday evening at the home of Keith Conyers and reception following at the Pilsen Community Center.

L.Dena Goertz sold tickets Saturday on the Hilltop quilt. Cy and L.Dena attended a fish fry Sunday evening at the VFW.

Farmers are trying to sow wheat between rain storms. We got approximately one-half inch of rain Sunday morning through Monday morning.

Youngtown FCE met at McGillicuddy's on Tuesday for lunch and a lesson on "soups, bogs and burgoos" given by Sherrie Mahoney from Salina. She brought a cold peach soup for us to sample and gave us a dry potato soup to take home with us. All the names in the lesson title are different forms of soup. Youngtown members attending were Betty Ireland, LuCretia Winkley, Darlene Schmidt, Margaret Ireland, and guest Dorothy Pankratz.

Howard and Beth Collett were luncheon guests Sunday of Rita and John Spinden in Chase County.

Charlie and Barb Stinchcomb were in Hillsboro Saturday for craft day and Rosealene and Charles Stinchcomb drove over and had supper with them.

Calvin and Arlene Dahl were Wednesday supper guests of Rosalie and Leonard Klassen. Arlene was a Thursday overnight guest of Rosalie's.

Cora Sorenson from Holcomb and Tami VanCampon from Emporia met Leaonard and Rosalie Klassen in McPherson Sunday for dinner.

Roseva McLinden spent Sunday to Thursday last week with her cousins in Kirksville, Mo. Six sisters from one family get together once a year at one of the sister's houses for their birthday and Christmas gift exchanges and to catch up on their families. This leaves the holiday season free for each to be with their respective families. They are from Illinois, Iowa, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri. All are members of Roseva's mother's sisters' families. They had one brother who died so his wife is included as a sister.
