Youngtown: Bowers prsents puppets, angels programs

Mary Beth Bowers presented three programs this past week. On Wednesday night, at the "Teddy Bear Picnic" at Eastmoor United Methodist Church's mother-daughter banquet, she played "Amanda" (girl puppet) to Judy Christensen's "Grandma Bear." She drove to Wichita Friday night and was my guest for dinner at Fairview Christian Church's mother-daughter banquet. She presented her program on "Angels" to around 75 people. Then on Sunday evening, she took a puppet show to the Florence United Methodist Church for their final celebration of the year for their Kids' Club.
Greg and Luke Bowers and Glen and Kyle Hett spent Saturday and Sunday at the Morning Star Ranch in rural Florence on a men and boys retreat. Pam Hett and Mary Beth Bowers and Rhonny joined them Sunday noon for a cook-out at the ranch.
Melissa O'Sullivan of Tulsa, Okla., Melinda Helmer of Andover, and Melanie Ensey and grandson Paton of Valley Center were Jackie Hett's guests at the Aulne United Methodist Church salad supper. They spent the night with Jackie.
Leonard and Rosalie Klassen attended the Symphony of Spring concert Saturday night at Friends University. Granddaughter Ashley Fisher and Bryce Hutson did a duet by Berlin, "The Girl That I Marry/An Old-fashioned Wedding."
Rosalie Klassen and Mary Ann Timm attended the mother-daughter banquet at Eastmoor Wednesday night. Eileen Sieger also attended and won the prize for having the largest bear. The bear was a gift to Lesley from her grandfather when she was about three. It was taller than Lesley when she got it. Grandpa named the bear Bruno, but Lesley renamed it Brunita. Eileen attended the Girl Scout Council of Flint Hills annual meeting Monday night and helped pass out awards. Eileen was at Country Dreams Saturday morning for the 20th Century Club brunch.
I met Charla Wheeler and Martha Hood at Charla's home Saturday morning and she picked up Betty May and Genny Mills and drove us to Wichita for lunch at the Spaghetti Factory in Old Town. Following lunch, we drove to Friends University for the Symphony of Spring concert by the Singing Quakers. We returned home around 8 p.m.
Sarah Davidson attended the state forensics meet in Wichita Friday. Rachel Davidson and her 8th grade class rode a bus to Kansas City Friday night and took an airplane to St. Louis. They toured St. Louis, with the Metro for transportation, and returned home at midnight Saturday. What a great trip. Rachel participate on Thursday in the Marion track meet.
Howard and Beth Collett got to her grandchildren, Hank, Lucy, and Caroline Collett, play piano in Lenore Mitchell's spring recital Sunday afternoon at the Marion Christian Church. Howard and Beth met other members of the El Dorado United Methodist Harmony Sunday school class at Kingfisher's Inn Friday evening for dinner. The Colletts and Bill and Georgia Higgins were Sunday dinner guests of Doris (Dody) and Harold Penner in El Dorado.
Roseva McLinden attended the funeral of Sharon Lefert at Holy Family Parish Church in Florence.
Raymond and Rita Kraus attended the Kansas Polkatennial Friday and Sunday at the Cotillion Ballroom in Wichita.
John and Beth Bateman of Wichita visited R.J. and Jeannine Bateman Sunday afternoon.
Leon Hayen visited John and Dorothy Hayen Friday and had dinner with them. He drove on to El Dorado to visit Bill and Georgia Higgins.
Virginia Downing and John and Dorothy Hayen attended worship at Eastmoor Sunday, then drove to Florence for lunch together.
Edmund Steiner, Vicki Smolik, and Lorraine Havlik attended the Polkatennial Saturday afternoon and evening at the Cotillion ballroom.
Roy and Rose Olive Hett attended the visitation at the Hillsboro funeral chapel Sunday evening for Rose Olive's cousin, May Hegarty. Rose Olive and Pam and Samantha Hett attended the mother-daughter banquet Wednesday night at Eastmoor.
L.Dena Goertz, Diana Jost, and Beth Wybert attended the Eastmoor mother-daughter banquet Wednesday evening. L.Dena attended the funeral of Pearl Kinsinger Saturday afternoon.
Marilyn Cox took Alvina Hoffman to Herington for lunch Friday noon. Erna Mae Yeagley took Alvina to May Fellowship Day Friday morning at the Christian church. I was Alvina's guest for the Eastmoor mother-daughter banquet. Kathy Hurst rode to the banquet with us and she won the prize for the "best dressed bear." Alvina and I had dinner together Sunday at McGillicuddy's.
Shirley and David Bowers were Monday evening dinner guests of Roy and Rose Olive Hett. Beverly and Kevin Jennison were Wednesday overnight guests of the Bowers and Beverly attended the mother-daughter banquet with Shirley. Shirley won the prize for the "most awesome bear." Shirley attended May Fellowship Day on Friday at the Christian Church. Shirley and David, Leonard and Rosalie Klassen, Cy and L.Dena Goertz, and Roy and Rose Olive Hett ate dinner at Eastmoor Sunday cooked by Gary Ewert and his young people for a church camp benefit. Shirley spent all day Saturday at the senior center helping with the city-wide garage sale.
I drove to Wichita Thursday and helped Marj Johnson decorate and prepare for the Fairview Christian Church mother-daughter banquet. Ethan Johnson helped serve, then walked 10 miles Saturday in the walk-a-thon for the benefit of the Christian church home in Newton.
