Youngtown: Class of '63 meets at Helmer home years ago

Classmates from the class of 1963 and two teachers, Janice Goertz and Neysa Eberhardt, were Friday night guests of Darrel Helmer. There were 43 members in the class, and all are still living to celebrate their 40th class reunion.
Those attending were Anita (Schlihuber) Hancock, Kay (Amick) and Albert Steele, Jan Schimpf, Jeannine (Skibby) Bateman, Tim Colle, Clifford and Evelyn Hett, Lowell Ensey, John and Edith (Jewett) Dartin, Larry and Diane Boese.
Betty (Tipton) Richmond, Mary (Melton) Lynam, Jean (Morse) Slater, John Hoover, Cheryl Castelman Lomer, Richard and Darlene (Lucas) Siebert, Don and Betty Stenzel, John and Helen (Oleson) Reznicek, Keith and Nancy Just, Carl Eling and Pat and son Carl, Karen Higgins Smith, Sharon (Kelsey) Youck, and Jenne (Moorse) Slater.
Jeannine Bateman was in charge of the parade. The class gathered at the home of Anita Hancock for breakfast Saturday morning and then rode in the parade. They visited in the park during the day and met again at 5:30 at the home of Clifford Hett for a steak supper.
Skip and Eileen Sieger attended the combined anniversary reception Wednesday evening for Bud and Lavonne Hanneford's 50th wedding anniversary and Mike and Gayle Thomas' 25th wedding anniversary at the country club.
Chris and Lesley Allen arrived Thursday to spend the weekend of Old Settlers' Day with the Siegers. Lesley attended the activities connected with her 10 year Marion High School class reunion. The Allens returned to Illinois Sunday after stopping off in Topeka to visit Chris' family.
John and Dorothy Hayen, Jan and Connie Hayen, Max and Donna Hayen, and Virginia Downing had Sunday dinner together at The Big Scoop. John Umberger visited Monday at the Hayen farm.
Margaret Ireland went to Wichita Sunday morning and met Jo Gearheart at Fairview Christian Church. Joe Johnson, Margaret's son-in-law, brought the morning message. Margaret took Joe and Marj Johnson and Ethan and Jo Gearheart to dinner Sunday, then went home with her sister, Jo, to spend the night. Margaret took Jo to the hospital Monday morning and stayed until she was able to be on her own.
