Howard and Beth Collect visited Dorothy Hayen last Monday afternoon and presented her with a bouquet of flowers from the wedding of Carrie Collect and Chris Parazin. They told her all about the wedding and Dorothy loved hearing about it. The Colletts then drove to the home of Marie Navrat with another bouquet of flowers. Marie used to baby-sit Carrie when she spent time with her grandparents.
Dorothy and John Hayen and Virginia Downing had dinner together Sunday at Florence. I took Alvina Hoffman to Florence for dinner and we sat with Leo and Dorothy Scharenberg.
Marie Navrat attended the Marion Middle School concert Monday night. Amber Ratzloff was in the production. Marie went to Harvest House on Friday.
Brent and Paula Hayen visited at the Hayen farm Sunday afternoon.
Youngtown people attending the open house for the 90th birthday of Aline Bernhardt were Mary Beth Bowers, David and Shirley Bowers, Rose Olive Hett, Cy and L.Dena Goertz, Leonard and Rosalie Klassen, and Margaret Ireland. This surely was the affair of the year! Aline's daughter had home-baked 26 different cheese cakes and brought them here from Denver. I have never seen a party with so much preparation.
Kristine Bateman and Jeannine Bateman attended the funeral services Saturday for John Bateman in Wichita. John died on Tuesday. He will be missed by all his friends in the Marion community.
Greg and Rose Davidson, Rachel and Sarah and Christine Schwartz went to the 4-H banquet Saturday night at Tabor College. Sarah was in a debate tournament on Saturday. She won four out of five debates. Rachel went to a Quiz Bowl meet and her team came in second. Rachel, Sarah, and Christine all were busy this week with parts in the musical, "Annie Get Your Gun," which will be presented on Friday and Saturday.
Youngtown FCE met at the home of Judy Christensen Tuesday noon for a microwave meal. Judy and Darlene Schmidt cooked the meal, complete with soup and dessert. They even made chocolate-covered peanuts. We brought home several receipts and will have fun trying them out. I already have made fudge from their receipt and had to take some in to Alvina Hoffman so I wouldn't have to buy larger clothes. She has better willpower then I do and is only eating one piece each day. Betty Ireland was my guest for club and she decided to join our group for the coming year. Members present other then the above mentioned were Roseva McLinden, Gertie Mahoney, LuCretia Winkley, and Lorene Smith.
Shirley Bowers and Ruth Viets were in McPherson Monday attending the Kansas West Archives meeting.
David and Shirley Bowers drove to Colby Friday and spent the night at the Russell Bowers home. They returned home Saturday and were joined in Salina Saturday afternoon by Mary Beth and Luke Bowers at the wedding shower honoring Todd Just and Crystal Giersch at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church.
Shirley and David Bowers, Cy and L.Dena Goertz, and Mary Beth and Greg Bowers attended the charge conference meeting and dinner Sunday evening at Burdick.
Cy and L.Dena Goertz, Shirley and David Bowers, and Leonard and Rosalie Klassen were guests of Eleanor and Ray Davidson for an evening of Skipbo.
Skip and Eileen Sieger joined their bridge club friends for dinner at Kingfisher's Inn Saturday night, then gathered at the home of Earl and Louise Wood for bridge.
LuCretia Winkley, Darlene Schmidt and Roseva McLinden attended the FCE district workshop in McPherson Thursday. They brought home all the lessons for next year.
Julie and Cory Janzen visited Rosalene and Charles Stinchcomb Sunday afternoon. Charles and Rosalene attended the turkey dinner at the Methodist church in Hillsboro Friday.
Calvin and Arlene Dahl spent Tuesday with Leonard and Rosalie Klassen. They spent the night and returned to Minnesota Wednesday morning. Leonard and Rosalie had supper with Elmer and Leonore Klassen in Newton Friday night.
Rhonny Bowers attended the K-State football game on Saturday. Greg Bowers was in Wichita Saturday morning at a Gideon meeting at the Airport Hilton.
