Everybody in the Youngtown area was busy this week cutting wheat and putting up hay.
We were delayed by a couple of rains and Sunday morning a sizable one accompanied by hail. Cal Dohl, Leonard Klassen's houseguest said the hail was the size of peas. Hail on my front porch looked more like sleet.
Cal and Arlene Dohl came on Tuesday to help Leonard and Rosalie with harvest.
Rosalie was at Via Christi-St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita on Wednesday and Thursday. Her heart tests showed no blockage so her medicine will be changed.
Rachel Davidson attended the Tri County Fair horse show Saturday night at Herington. Sara Davidson celebrated her 17th birthday Thursday evening with a party for a group of friends at her farm home. Greg Davidson spent most of last week in Hays helping Rose's father with harvest.
Wanda and George Coe of Wichita visited Roy and Rose Olive Hett Sunday afternoon. Samantha Hett returned from her mission trip and came over to share the trip with her grandparents. Girls in their last years of high school visit various missions of the United Methodist Church and do some service while there.
Dorothy and John Hayen and Virginia Downing shared Sunday dinner at Florence after church at Eastmoor.
Cy and L.Dena Goertz went to Fort Scott Saturday to attend the wedding of Stephanie Lalman and Mike Hall. Stephanie is the youngest daughter of Mary Fayes and the granddaughter of Maryanna and Orville Scharenburg.
LaVerne Hoffman purchased a watermelon and placed it in the dining area of September apartments a week ago. Alvina Hoffman invited the ladies of the apartments Tuesday afternoon to a party. Evelyn Mott left quilting early to prepare the melon. Alvina had washed her china and served the melon on good china and gold flatware. Guests enjoying the treat were Annie Hanschu, Edna Winter, Elfie Switzer, Bernice Thies, Kathy Hurst, Billie Hurtig, Julie Boydston, LaDonna Westhafer, and Evelyn and Alvina.
Jeannine Bateman went to the Kansas Republican Woman's meeting at Rolling Hills Zoo in Salina. Kristine came Sunday to visit Jeannine and they drove to Skip and Eileen Sieger's home Sunday afternoon.
Edmund Steiner and Vicki Smolik attended the Rosary Sunday for Kenny Steiner at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen. Lorraine Havlik visited Vicki Thursday evening.
Wilma Gilmer, Judy Reno, and I hosted the covered dish dinner Wednesday evening for African tribal chief Mambo Zimunya at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Youngtown people attending were Shirley and David Bowers and Greg and Mary Beth Bowers.
The Bowers families attended the fifth Sunday sing-a-long at the Baptist church Sunday evening.
Vickie Kraus was in Coldwater from Friday through Sunday. Melanie Dunn was on call at the hospital and Jeremy was harvesting, so Vickie went to take care of her three grandsons.
