Moisture game in the form of ice and sleet Tuesday night and most of Wednesday. John Hayen reported around four inches of sleet and it melted down to about 1 1/2 inches of moisture. We were so lucky to not lose our power as many towns did.
John and Dorothy Hayen met Virginia Downing at Eastmoor Sunday morning, attended church, then drove to Florence for dinner.
Skip Sieger stopped Friday afternoon to visit R.J. Bateman.
Faye and Jerry Makovec and Delores and Dwayne Stroda picked up Jeff Makovec at Halstead Sunday and drove to Hutchinson for dinner.
Alvina Hoffman baked several cherry pies which she served on Friday in honor of George Washington's birthday at a chicken and noodle dinner at September I Apartments. Those present for the meal were Alberta Bartlett, Alberta Olsen, Evelyn Mott, Thelma Jost, Agnes Pecinovsky, Ruth Bessel, Josephine Stroda, Bernice Herbel, Kathy Hurst, Helen Bailey, and Clara Razor.
Doug and Nancy Hammond of Augusta were Monday supper guests of Howard and Beth Collett.
Vicki Smolik and Tim and Becky Makovec, Morgan and Tyler drove to Emporia Sunday afternoon for a birthday party and supper honoring Kandace and Justin Griffin.
Eileen Sieger attended the Kansas Day luncheon and program on Tuesday at McGillicuddy's restaurant. The program featured Amelia Earhart.
Phil and Renati Huttig and Skip and Eileen Sieger helped longtime friends Maurine and John Pruitt celebrate their 32nd wedding anniversary Saturday night at Wichita.
Ray and Rita Kraus attended the funeral in Andover Tuesday of his aunt, Evelyn Orth, 95. The Krauses attended graveside services for Claude Louis Thursday afternoon at the Florence cemetery.
Bud and Roseva McLinden, Chuck and Lori McLinden, Lauren and Jarret, and Richard and Patty McLinden were guests Saturday at the Chase County conservation dinner at Cottonwood Fall. Bud received the 2001 grasslands award. The McLinden family was honored with four generations in ranching and will be featured on cable TV in the Strong City area.
I drove to Wichita Friday to spend the weekend with my sister, Jo Gearheart. The highways were clear, but her drive was solid ice. Wichita got more ice than we did. I couldn't get out of my car, so Jo laid bath towels down from the house to my car. I never heard of such a thing, but it works! Her husband had learned this trick from the Army. We had a great weekend in spite of the ice. I joined Marj Johnson, Ethan and Emily at Fairview for church on Sunday and the soup dinner furnished by Boy Scout Troop 410. I drove home following dinner and arrived here with 60 degree temperature with considerable melting taking place. I'll be glad to see the last of this ice.
Rosalie and Leonard Klassen drove to Holcomb last weekend, returning late Monday. They visited Cora and Don Sorenson, Kami, Kelsie, and Keaton.
Most everyone out here stayed home during the storm to avoid falls. Hope to have more news next week.
