Youngtown: Makovecs host party for Tyler's second birthday

Becky and Tim Makovec and Morgan hosted a soup supper/birthday party Dec. 27 for Tyler's second birthday. Guests for soup, birthday cake, and ice cream were Vickie Smolik, Edmund Steiner, Paul and Kathy Swan, Katrina and Justin Griffin, Kandace and Kassidy, Jerry and Faye Makovec, and Joe Makovec and Aaron.
Vickie Smolik served Christmas left-overs from the freezer Sunday to Paul and Kathy Swan, Tim and Becky Makovec, Morgan and Tyler, and Justin and Katrina Griffin, Kandace and Kassidy. The men were hunting for deer, but didn't have any luck.
Rose Davidson's parents and aunt were weekend visitors at the Greg Davidson farm. Sunny and Rae Mona Herman are from Hays and her aunt, Sister Anice Herman, came with them.
Sarah Davidson and her partner Olga Kartenko participated in the Novice State Level debate competition this weekend. The girls earned 24 speaker points.
Roy and Rose Olive Hett ate at the senior center Thursday (Rose Olive's birthday) and everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to her. Cranford and Lila Ensey of McPherson took Roy and Rose Olive to dinner Friday in honor of her birthday.
Christmas dinner guests of R.J. and Jeannine Bateman were Kristine Bateman of Topeka, Alvina Skibbe and Daryl and Connie Skibbe, Eric and Christopher of Newton, and Jerald Skibbe of Greensburg.
Dorothy and John Hayen attended the wedding Saturday night of Ruby Goering and Jason Kruse at the Ebenfeld Mennonite Church, near Hillsboro. Ruby is the daughter of Charles and Lenora Goering of this community. Leonard and Rosalie Klassen and Mary Beth Bowers also report they attended the wedding.
Cy and L.Dena Goertz hosted a New Year's Eve Skipbo party in their home Sunday evening. Guests were Leonard and Rosalie Klassen, Ray and Eleanor Davidson, and David and Shirley Bowers. On New Year's Eve, the Goertzs were guests of the Come Join Us class at 5 p.m. at Eastmoor. They then drove to the Legion hall at Burdick where they attended a party hosted by Diana Jost and children honoring Clint Jost's 60th birthday.
Greg Bowers was in El Dorado Saturday morning attending a Gideon conference.
Guests at the Howard Collett farm between Christmas and New Year's were Randy and Rachel Collett, Maggie and Zach and Andy Muenks of Missouri, Carrie Collett and Chris Paragen of Overland Park, Rick and Collette Erickson of Chapman, Liz and Kate Collett of Manhattan, Keith and Anne Collett, Hank, Lucy, and Caroline, and Don Argo of El Dorado.
Howard and Beth Collett were Sunday dinner guests of Bill and Rosa Spinden of Strong City.
Shirley Bowers took a fall at her home Saturday afternoon and will be spending a few days in the hospital. Daniel and Kim Bowers, Bryce and Breanna visited Sunday afternoon and Betsy Bunnel and Bev Jennison are her for a few days to help as needed.
Faye and Jerry Makovec were Christmas guests of Donita and Gary Turk, Adam, Brian, and Chelsea. Additional guests were Joe Makovec and Aaron and Tim and Becky Makovec, Morgan and Tyler.
Leonard and Rosalie Klassen attended a Billy Graham movie Christmas Eve in Hillsboro and visited Rachel and Vernon Friesen.
Agnes Pecinovsky visited Alvina Hoffman Sunday afternoon to watch TV.
Jackie Hett's overnight guests during the New Year's week were Melinda Helmer of Andover, Melissa O'Sullivan, Ryan and Maddie of Tulsa, Lindsey and Kelly Porter of Wichita, and Rachel Reid of Houston.
