Youngtown: Many attend Selvy funeral

Dorothy and John Hayen attended the memorial services for Glen Selvy on Thursday and visited with family and friends at Eastmoor following the services.
Bill and Georgia Higgins of El Dorado, John and Mary Higgins of Topeka, Boyd and Virginia Higgins of Hutchinson, Karen Higgins Smith of Columbia, S.C., and Sandy and Gail Dody of Wichita were here with Hazel Higgins Selvy for Glen's funeral.
Also attending Glen Selvy's funeral were Howard and Beth Collett, Shirley and David Bowers, Margie and John Talbott of Halstead, Anita and Kenneth Sly of Salina, Clarice and Bill Hammer of Olathe, Steve Collett, and Stacy Collett.
Beth Collett hosted a lunch at Kingfisher's Friday for friends from El Dorado. They were Ramona Clanton, Rosemary Gfeller, and Virginia Bennett.
Sharon Matz had surgery for appendicitis last Monday in Herington. She is at home and doing well. Her parents, Ginny and Pete Cuppage visited last week and helped with her recuperation.
Eileen Sieger attended the annual Girl Scout delegate meeting Saturday at Emporia. Skip and Eileen were guests at the Marion Country Club dinner last Saturday evening.
Jerry and Faye Makovec visited Vicki Smolik Thursday evening. Vicki served Sunday dinner to Kathy and Paul Swan and Tim and Becky Makovec, Morgan and Tyler. They were celebrating the Swans' wedding anniversary.
Virginia Downing, John and Dorothy Hayen, Roy and Rose Olive Hett, and Margaret Ireland reported attending the reception Sunday afternoon honoring Sadie Bernhardt's 90th birthday. Leon Hayen, Virginia Downing, and Marilyn Geis were students of Sadie at the Youngtown school. My husband Kenneth Ireland and all his brothers and sister also were her students. Norma told Sadie that when she started teaching school, she patterned her discipline and teaching style from what she learned from Sadie.
L.Dena and Cy Goertz served a Nebraska Husker pork chop dinner on Saturday to Diana and Clint Jost, John Jost of Manhattan, and Beth and Nick Weibert of Goessel.
Greg and Mary Beth Bowers, Rhonny, Steven, and Luke served Saturday supper to Russell and Stephanie Bowers of Colby, Daniel and Kim Bowers, Bryce and Breanna, David and Shirley Bowers, and Richard Bowers. The Russell and Daniel Bowers families spent Saturday night and Sunday with the David Bowers. The boys helped David with work that needed to be done.
Greg and Mary Beth Bowers and family and Pat and Daryl Enos were Sunday dinner guests of Charles and JoAnn Kjellin to help Mary Beth celebrate her birthday.
I talked to Shirley Bowers Monday morning. She and David were driving to Beto Junction to meet Daniel Bowers who would take them on to Kansas City for a doctor's appointment. Shirley hopes to be dismissed by the doctor.
Jackie Hett bowled in the Marion women's bowling tournament and bowled 11 pins above her average, so she was pleased with her performance. Jackie attended a puppet show Sunday night at the Aulne United Methodist Church.
I had lunch Sunday noon at Kingfisher's with Charla Wheeler, Martha Hood, Betty May, Dorothy Conyers, and Genny Mills.
I helped serve the dinner at Eastmoor Thursday noon for relatives attending the Selvy funeral.
Jeannine Bateman drove Juanita Stovall to Topeka Saturday for the Kansas Day celebration.
Pauline McCraffrey of Colorado telephoned early Friday morning to visit with her cousin, Alvina Hoffman. Sharon and Gene Jesperson of Marion, S.D., visited Alvina Friday morning. Prudy Hanson took Alvin to Florence for dinner Friday noon.
