The memorial marker was placed on the corner at Youngtown United Methodist Church this past week. A dedication service has been scheduled for 2 p.m. April 7 with Cheryl J. Bell, Salina District superintendent, present.

Youngtown United Methodist Women's re-order of cookbooks has arrived and we have 110 books to sell this time. Anyone wanting books, should contact Shirley Bowers, L.Dena Goertz, or any of the former members.

We are happy to tell you that R.J. Bateman is doing well following surgery last Tuesday at Via Christi-St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Jeannine and Kristine have been driving back and forth each day. He will start therapy this Monday and maybe can be home soon.

Vicki Smolik hosted a birthday dinner for Edmund Steiner Sunday night. Invited guests were Dennis and Mary Steiner, Terry and Deanna Steiner, Terry Allen, and Christine and Miranda. Vicki and Edmund were guests Thursday of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ehlers in Salina for Edmund's birthday. Vicki attended the altar society meeting at St. Mark's Activity Center and was one of the hostesses.

Alvina Hoffman, Rose Olive Hett, Shirley Bowers, and Margaret Ireland attended the Eastmoor United Methodist Women's meeting Wednesday afternoon.

Dorothy Gilbert came to my home Saturday afternoon for several of our UMW cookbooks and stayed for a short visit about quilts. I have spent the winter quilting here at home and am finishing my fourth quilt. Now I have the job of binding them before giving them to my grandkids.

Cy and L.Dena Goertz went to Diana and Clint Jost's for Sunday dinner. John Jost and Tory Hecht were visiting his parents, also. Cy and L.Dena and Shirley and David Bowers attended the Come Join Us Sunday school class party Thursday night at Kingfisher's Inn.

Guests at the Howard Collett farm on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week were Keith and Kathy Winter and Amanda of Wellington, Colo. Howard and Beth took them to Minneapolis Wednesday to tour the George Washington Carver Museum. They drove through Rock City, had lunch at the Kirby House in Abilene, and spent the afternoon at the Eisenhower Complex. Beth and Howard had lunch Sunday with Don Argo in El Dorado and attended the Woods Tea Company Concert in the afternoon. Howard, Beth, and Shirley Bowers report attending the "Fiddler on the Roof" production Saturday at the city building.

Bud and Roseva McLinden went to the funeral service for Vera Highsmith on Thursday at the Lutheran church in Marion. Bud and Roseva attended the St. Patrick's Day dinner on Saturday at the Catholic church in Strong City.

Kathy Hurst visited Alvina Hoffman Sunday afternoon.

Don and Vickie Kraus and Nick drove Ray and Rita Kraus to the St. Patrick's Day dinner at Strong City. Ray and Rita planted potatoes Monday morning. I hope they have a good crop.

Tuesday and Sunday of last week were such beautiful days it makes us all want to work in our gardens. I got my flower garden cleaned off on Tuesday, so now I can see the buds on the spring plants — the ones that the rabbits haven't destroyed. I think my rabbits think I plant tulips and roses for them.

Bryce and Breanna Bowers came Sunday afternoon to spend a few days of their spring break with their grandparents, Shirley and David Bowers. David and Shirley met Russell and Stephanie Bowers and Adam and Andrea Bowers and Alexis from Colby for dinner in McPherson Friday evening.

Ethan Johnson and Joe Johnson came here Sunday to shoot blue rock with Ethan's new birthday shotgun. Ethan did real well for his first time ever to shoot a gun. Joe did some repair work in my bathroom and, believe me, it is appreciated!

Charles Goering and Ruby Kruse visited Dorothy and John Hayen Friday afternoon. They used to be close neighbors of the Hayens, so enjoyed a good visit. Marilyn Cox visited Dorothy and John on Wednesday. Dorothy said she is slowly recovering after her stay in the hospital.

Dorothy Conyers, Gerry Mills, Martha Hood, Charla Wheeler, and Margaret Ireland ate lunch together Sunday at McGillicuddy's.

Leonard and Rosalie Klassen attend a Pinewood Derby in Wichita in which their grandson Aaron participated. Allegra and Aaron came home with them for a few days of their spring break. The Klassens, Allegra, and Aaron attended the production, "Fiddler on the Roof," Saturday night at the city building.

Sarah Davidson was a member of the cast of "Fiddler on the Roof" and Rachel was a page turner for the accompanist, Anita Brookens. Rose Davidson helped with the cast's makeups. Both Rachel and Sarah were in the 4-H Regionals Saturday morning in El Dorado. Rachel got a red ribbon on her piano solo and a blue on her reading. Sarah got a red on her demonstration, blue on piano, and blue on public speaking. Both of the Davidson girls are advanced enough on the piano to play for church. We know this takes hours of dedicated practice.
