Men from Strassburg Baptist Church came Saturday to the home of Jeannine Bateman with lawn mowers, chainsaws, high loaders, even rakes, to give her a birthday present of a clean yard.
Shirley Groening, Sherrie Groening, and Martha Krispense brought lunch to serve the workers.
The men who worked at the Bateman farm were Gordon Groening, Russ and Justin Groening, Darrell Spencer, Virgil Weber, Dwight Kruse, Tony Hett, Ora Hett, Don Mashburn, Darrel Helmer, Ray and Paul Helmer, Troy Smith, and Steve and Todd Krispense.
What a lovely service for a church to do for someone who had just lost her husband.
Kristine Bateman was home for the Fourth of July to help her mother celebrate her birthday by taking her to dinner and a movie. While in Wichita, Kristine and Jeannine visited John Bateman.
Agnes Bernhart and Jeannine Bateman attended the fireworks Sunday at Aulne, and had pie and ice cream there.
Clarice and Bill Hammer visited Friday afternoon with Dorothy Hayen.
Donna Cherry, Anjanette Montano, Nichole, Samantha, and Courtney Koehn spent Tuesday visiting Marie Navrat. Additional visitors were Shelly Ratzloff, Ashley, Amber, and Samantha. Marie Navrat attended the Children's Summer Theater production Thursday evening. Granddaughter Amber Ratzloff had a part in the play.
Alvina Hoffman and I ate lunch Sunday with Marilyn and Jim Cox and the Eastmoor singles.

Leonard and Rosalie accompanied Marilyn Geis and others from Marion senior center Thursday to the Crown Uptown Theater for the production of "Smoke on the Mountain."
Lorene Smith treated me to a birthday dinner Wednesday at Kingfisher's Inn. Marj Johnson and Emily and Ethan came Friday to help me celebrate my 75 birthday. I received many cards and calls. Nancy Ireland sent me a beautiful quilt. She and Pat sent money for me to visit in California. Getting older isn't so bad when one is treated so royally.
Chuck and Lori McLinden and Lauren, Jarret, and Kelly Jost were Thursday noon guests of Bud and Roseva McLinden.
Sarah and Rachel Davidson entered several items in the Tri County Fair last week. Rachel had a lead part in the summer theater program at the Marion City Building on Thursday and Friday. Sarah worked backstage.
Rose Davidson's family were here this weekend. Her parents, Sunny and Rae Mona Herman, from Hays; brother and wife, Tim and Marcia Herman, Amy, Jennifer, and Ben; and sister Michelle Lopez were here Friday night for the play. They returned home Sunday.
Greg and Rose Davidson, Sarah and Louis Stika, Rita Tomlinson, and Shirley and David Bowers reported attending the library dinner, dedication, and open house Sunday evening in Marion.
