Shirley and David Bowers drove to Meriden Saturday to attend the wedding of Kenny and Carrie Jo Morris. Following the wedding, they watched the Summerfest parade before going to the Kansas Museum of History in Topeka for the reception.
Shirley Bowers entered 11 textile items in the Marion County Fair and earned seven blue ribbons and four reds. Shirley, David, and Cy and L.Dena Goertz attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration Sunday afternoon for Phyllis and Eugene Enos at Eastmoor. Mary Beth Bowers, Shirley, and David have attended all of the citywide revival meetings at Good News Christian Fellowship church and report them to be excellent.
Rachel Davidson earned a reserve champion ribbon in horse showmanship and Sarah earned a reserve champion for style revue, modeling a garment she had constructed for the Marion County Fair. Sarah gave blood for the first time ever this week at the blood bank in Hillsboro. Rose, Sarah, and Rachel provided special music Sunday morning at the Presbyterian church.
Roy and Rose Olive Hett, Paul and Jane Hett, and Elma Piper ate dinner together Saturday night at Kingfisher's Inn. All attended the Hett reunion Sunday afternoon at the county lake hall.
John Umberger visited John and Dorothy Hayen last week and brought lovely large tomatoes from his garden. Marilyn Geis and Virginia Downing came out and shared the tomatoes with family and friends. They took one to Alvina Hoffman. She had been John Umberger's teacher at one time. I called on Dorothy Friday morning. Ray and Jamie Helmer visited John and Dorothy Sunday afternoon. Dorothy doesn't get out much, so really enjoys visits from friends and family.
I helped receive exhibits at the fair Wednesday morning and afternoon and placed ribbons on them as they were judged. We then placed them on racks for display during the fair.
I attended the breakfast at Valley United Methodist Church Wednesday morning.
Eileen Sieger hosted her Friday afternoon bridge club this week. Guests were Betty Fruechting and Louis Wood. Members present were Joyce Smith, Mary Kay Classen, Margaret Pickering, Lavonne Hannaford, Marian Crofoot, and Dorothy Youk.
Skip and Eileen Sieger drove to Wichita Sunday afternoon for the music theater production of the Scarlet Pimpernel. They report it was well done.
Steve Smith from Troy visitied from Wednesday through Monday with Chuck and Lorie McLinden, Lauren and Jarret. All took in the rodeos at the fair. Roseva McLinden joined them for dinner at the farm on Sunday.
Howard and Beth Collett, Rita and John Spinden of Cottonwood Falls, Morgan Spinden, and Kathy Winter and daughter Amanda of Wellington, Colo., had supper together Saturday evening at Al's Café in Lost Springs.
Faye and Jerry Makovec enjoyed the parade and exhibits on the opening night of the county fair.
Vickie Fisher, Aaron and Allegra and Cora Sorenson, Kelsie and Keaton came Wednesday night to visit Leonard and Rosalie Klassen. Vicki and children returned home Friday night and Cora returned home on Saturday. Leonard and Rosalie attended the open house in celebration of Phyllis and Eugene Enos' 50th wedding anniversary Sunday afternoon at Eastmoor. Elmer and Leonore Klassen of Newton stopped Saturday for a visit with Leonard and Rosalie.
Youngtown FCE met at McGillicuddy's Tuesday for lunch, a business meeting, and lesson on making a difference in the community. The stop sign at Florence also was discussed. People don't think a four-way stop sign will solve the problem. Members present were Darlene Schmidt, Gertie Mahoney, LuCretia Winkley, Betty Ireland, Roseva McLinden, and myself.
