Eileen Sieger went to a "Protect the Flint Hills" public forum Saturday night at the Flying W Ranch, south of Clements. Topics were wind farms, coal bed methane gas extraction, and urban sprawl. At the end of the meeting, Eileen joined a horse-drawn hayrack ride around the scenic ranch. Skip and Eileen spent their 36th wedding anniversary cutting wheat on Monday of last week.
Abigail Paden visited from Sunday through Friday with Greg and Mary Beth Bowers, Luke, Stephen, and Rhonny. She wanted to learn all about the farm. Mary Beth had ordered 50 baby chicks to be there for Abigail to learn about starting them. They cut hay and bailed it and Abbie learned how hay is preserved for winter cattle feed. She got to help with killing musk thistles also. This is what we might call an educational visit. Anyway, Abigail learned a lot about summer farm activities.
Shirley and David Bowers and Cy and L.Dena Goertz attended the Come Join Us Sunday school class party Wednesday evening at the Eugene Enos farm home.
Brent and Paula Hayen visited John and Dorothy Hayen Sunday afternoon.
I picked up Ethan Johnson Saturday at the White Memorial Church Camp north of Council Grove. Coming home we saw the Kaw Indian parade in Council Grove. Ethan really was interested in seeing the many restored automobiles all over the town. They were parked on all the streets with their hoods up for everyone to admire.
I was warned at the camp to drive carefully on the flint rock roads and sure enough, I had a low tire Sunday morning. I called Leonard Klassen before he went to church and he had me drive over to his dairy barn and aired the tire for me. I had the key for the scout house in Hillsboro where the Ireland family reunion was to be held and was so very thankful for his help.
Ethan and I drove over to Hillsboro and he helped set up the tables. Davy Roberts Jr. from Wichita always meets me there and usually he and I set up the tables, but this year my grandson took my place, and that was so nice.
Linda Bucanon of Mulvane hosted the reunion again this year and decorated the tables with old fashioned red tablecloths and centerpieces of all the old games we used to play as kids. Many took advantage of the games while the family gathered and kept busy playing while the food was being set out. Descendants from Frank and Marie Ireland who attended were John and Maxine Ireland, Tim Ireland and family, and Tom Ireland from Oklahoma, David Roberts and Linda Bucanon and Christy of Mulvane, David Roberts Jr., Marj and Joe Johnson, Ethan and Emily of Wichita, and Gayle Delzer and Daniel of Plevna.
The Larson family will be hosts next year and the reunion will be held at the new community center in Burns.
Richard and Patty McLinden and Roseva McLinden flew to Beaumont Sunday for dinner. Howard and Beth Collett and Roseva attended the historical society banquet Friday evening at Eastmoor. Dr. Jim Hoy of Topeka was the speaker and he talked about folklore.
Howard and Beth Collett, Collette Erickson, and Don Argo were in Nevada City, Calif., last week for the high school graduation of Megan Gravenstine.
Janet Matz hosted the Middle Creek women's annual birthday party for Beth Collett last week. Guests were Evelyn Matz, Marie Navrat, Lorene Smith, Sharon Matz, Jacob and Maggie.
Elmer and Leonore Klassen of Newton and Leonard and Rosalie Klassen had supper together Saturday evening at the Pizza Hut. The Leonard Klassens drove to Wichita Sunday night and ate supper with Marv and Vickie Fisher, Aaron and Allegra.
