Youngtown: Sieger home for visit with family, friends

Lesley Allen arrived at the Skip Sieger farm Saturday evening to spend a couple of weeks with her parents and with Marion and Emporia friends. Kristine Bateman had driven to Illinois to visit Chris and Lesley and brought Lesley back to Kansas. Skip plans to fly Lesley back to Illinois at the end of her visit. Lesley's husband Chris couldn't come as he had to work. Skip and Eileen enjoyed a cookout dinner July 5 at the home of Phil and Renate Huttig in Wichita.

Kristine Bateman came Saturday evening and spent Sunday with her mother, Jeannine Bateman.

Vickie and Marv Fisher, Ashley, Aaron, and Allegra and Arlene and Cal Dahl spent Friday with Leonard and Rosalie Klassen celebrating the Fourth of July an the end of harvest. The Dahls have been here for a couple of weeks helping with the harvest. Cora and Don Sorenson, Kelsie, Kelly, and Keaton and Kami and Eric VanCampon came Sunday and were dinner guests of the Klassens at Kingfisher's Inn. All ate supper together at the Pizza Hut that evening before returning home to Holcomb.

Chelsea Turk was a houseguest of Jerry and Faye Makovec from Thursday through Sunday. Morgan Makovec spent Thursday and part of Friday visiting Chelsea. Company at the Makovec farm Friday afternoon included Jessie Elliott and her brother Sam Jewett of Nashville, Tenn., and Edith Darting of Hillsboro. They were searching their roots for the family history. The Makovecs and Chelsea viewed the Peabody fireworks Friday evening. Jerry and Faye took Chelsea to Emporia Sunday to meet her mother and brother, Donita Makovec and Brian. Donita took them to dinner to celebrate Jerry's birthday before returning home.

Roy and Rose Olive Hett and Glenn and Pam Hett, Samantha and Kyle ate dinner together Sunday at Kingfisher's Inn. Afternoon callers at the Roy Hett home were Donald and Renee Bales of Lewis and Kyle and Samantha Hett.

Dorothy Hayen has been at Marion Manor this past week while John has been busy with harvest. Virginia Downing, Dorothy, and John ate Sunday dinner together at Florence.

Cy and L.Dena Goertz went to Diana Jost's home on the Fourth to pick choke cherries for jelly. L.Dena came home with four gallons of juice and she presented a half gallon to the women at Hilltop Manor. They plan to make jelly Tuesday afternoon. Dianna gave L.Dena a jar of jelly so they could see how it looked and tasted. She said choke cherries make a pretty jelly and very good. L.Dena attended party Sunday afternoon that Sandy Loveless gave for her mother Gunnie Sever's 80th birthday. Cy and L.Dena drove to Peabody on the Fourth to view the fireworks display.

Alvina Hoffman fell in her aparmtnet last week and has been in a lot of pain from a cracked rib. Her callers Sunday afternoon were Sam Jewett and Jessie Elliott, Sam was a former student of Alvina's and she was glad to visit with him.

Ashley Ratzloff was a Thursday visitor of Marie Navrat. Amanda, Ashley, and Samantha Ratzloff ate lunch with Marie on the Fourth. Shelly and the three girls visited Marie on Sunday.

Ray and Rita Kraus attend the funeral of Marie Meyer on Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aleppo.

Youngtown FCE met for dinner Tuesday at McGillicuddy's. The meeting following. Betty Ireland brought the lesson on alternative medicine. Roll call was answered with a home remedy used by our parents. Sore throats and coughs were treated with onions and sugar cooked to a thick syrup and honey with apricot brandy, sugar, kerosene, or lemon juice. Take your choice. Members present were Darlene Schmidt, Roseva McLinden, LuCretia Winkley, Gertie Mahoney, and Margaret Ireland.

Charles Kjellin, Greg and Mary Beth Bowers, Luke and Steven, Karen Kelly of Nixa, Mo., and Pat and Daryl Enos and Mitch drove to McPherson Sunday to the country home of Doug and Amy Kejllin, Erik, Andrew, and Adam for a day together. Rhonny Bowers had company, Brent Lowe of Andover and she drove him home Sunday afternoon. Rhonny is moving into an apartment in Marion this Monday and will start to learn about setting up housekeeping and paying rent. This is a big step for our young people, but one they eagerly look forward to.

Rosalene and Charles Stinchcomb were guests of Charlie and Barb Stinchcomb in Russell over the Fourth. Additional family members present were Susie and Dick Mueller, Mike and Emma Stinchcomb, Blaine and Barbara Stinchcomb, BJ and Susanna, and Julie and Cory Janzen and Jared. They enjoyed a beautiful display of fireworks while there.

Shirley and David Bowers, accompanied by Abigail Paden, drove to Colby Thursday and spent Friday and Saturday with Russell and Stephanie Bowers and family. They celebrated Zachary's birthday while there.

Howard and Beth Collett and Don Argo enjoyed cake and ice cream on the Fourth of July at the Keith Collett home to celebrate the birthdays of Hank and Lucy. The Howard Colletts' Sunday evening dinner guests were Don Argo, Jan and Dan O'Niel of Washington State, and John and Rita Spinden of Cottonwood Falls.

Richard and Patty McLinden held a big party this weekend to celebrate Regan Morton's eighth birthday, the birthdays of Chuck McLinden and Susie Morton, and Susie and Craig Morton's wedding anniversary. Additional guests were Roseva McLinden and Lorie McLinden, Lauren and Jarret.
