Youngtown: Smolik hosts Halloween party, hayrack ride

Vicki Smolik hosted her annual Halloween party Saturday night. Her guests were treated to a hayrack ride around the section under a full moon. There was no wind and the moon was so bright they didn't even need lights on the tractor except for safety reasons. Gathering at the house follow the hayrack ride to eat chili and for an evening of visiting were Paul and Kathy Swan, Lorraine Havlik, Tim and Becky Makovec, Morgan and Tyler, Justin and Katrina Griffin, Kandace and Kassidy, Edmund Steiner, and Sam and Diana Griffin.
Henrietta and Vernon Waner and Vicki Smolik attended the funeral service for their aunt, Mrs. Rudolph (Rosie) Oborny Wednesday morning at Timken.
Beverly Jennison and Cheryl came Friday night to spend the weekend with Shirley and David Bowers.
David and Shirley Bowers, Greg and Mary Beth Bowers, Leonard and Rosalie Klassen, and Margaret Ireland attended the concert by CROSS FOCUS Sunday evening at Eastmoor. The group, from Rosehill, is led by Miriam Priest Newman. They performed for two hours, half of which was done during dinner.
Shirley Bowers, Greg and Mary Beth Bowers, and Margaret Ireland attended the missionary program given Tuesday by Dennis and Jeanette Fulton at Eastmoor.
Bud McLinden is home from the hospital and is improving each day. Bud and Roseva, Richard and Patty McLinden, and Lori McLinden, Lauren and Jarret went to the ranch rodeo at Cassoday Sunday. Chuck McLinden was a participant in the rodeo.
Roseva McLinden, LuCretia Winkley, and Gertie Mahoney were in Hutchinson from Monday through Wednesday as representatives of Youngtown FCE at the KAFCE conference.
Joe Johnson and Ethan came out Saturday to play and while here Joe got me connected to the Internet. Now I have to learn how to use it. He certainly has spent a lot of time here helping me get to understand the computer and its uses.
Faye and Jerry Makovec drove to Baldwin City Friday night to see their grandson Bryan Turk play football. It was an exiting game and Bryan's team won. The Makovecs spent the night and took in a little of Baldwin City's Maple Leaf Festival on Saturday before returning home.
Jeannine Bateman, Faye Makovec, and Carol Maggard attended the Republican Women's meeting Wednesday noon at September Apartments. Carol presented the program. Jeannine, Faye, and Carol took in the dinner meeting at the senior center Thursday noon of the Marion County Senior Citizens group.
Alvina Hoffman and Kathy Hurst attended the meeting and dinner at the senior center Thursday noon.
I was a dinner guest of Mary Mae Hett Thursday at the senior center.
Ashley Fisher came Friday evening to help Rosalie Klassen celebrate her birthday. The Klassens and Ashley had Friday evening dinner in Durham. Ashley stayed the night with them and they drove to Abilene Saturday to the chocolate factory. Ashley had never been there and she really enjoyed tasting the different kinds of candy.
Elmer and Leonore Klassen of Newton came to the Klassen home Tuesday evening with supper to help Rosalie celebrate her birthday. The Klassens attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of Raymond and Marge Just Sunday afternoon at the Ebenfeld church.
