Youngtown: Stromberg honored with party in Central Park

Lela Sellers, assisted by Marilyn Cox and Rose Olive Hett, hosted a reception at Central Park in Marion Saturday afternoon honoring the 90th birthday of Benard Stromberg. Youngtown people attending were Roy Hett, Dorothy and John Hayen, Alvina Hoffman, Helen Stromberg, David Bowers, Beverly Jennison, Mary Lou Just, Betsy Bunnel, Janelle Paden, Cy and L.Dena Goertz, Roger Giesbrecht, and Margaret Ireland. There were many family members present as well as many friends from the Florence and Marion communities.

Marlene O'Neal of Olathe brought dinner to John and Dorothy Hayen on Wednesday. The O'Neals have sold their home in Olathe, where they have lived for many years, and are moving to Junction City to be near Ellen O'Neal. John and Dorothy ate dinner in Florence Sunday and were joined by Marilyn and Jim Cox for a good visit.

Friday afternoon visitors at the Roy Hett farm were Morgan and Samantha Hett.

Kristine and Jeannine Bateman spent last weekend in Lincoln, Neb., visiting Maxine Cunningham. They visited John Bateman in Wichita on Saturday and with Alvina Skibbe in Newton that afternoon. Daryl Skibbe, Eric and Christopher visited at the Bateman farm Sunday afternoon. Kristine and Jeannine viewed the fireworks at the county lake in the evening.

Vicki Smolik and Edmund Steiner attended a dinner meeting Thursday evening sponsored by the Sunflower Fertilizer Company at the Herington Community Center. Paul and Kathy Swan and Tim and Becky Makovec, Morgan and Tyler attended the fireworks display at the county lake Sunday evening.

Rita and Raymond Kraus enjoyed the fireworks at the county lake Sunday evening.

Cy and L.Dena Goertz visited Mike and Lorie Davis Saturday morning in Derby. They went to the Republican Central Committee meeting in Hillsboro Friday evening. Bob Hein was elected chairman for next year and L.Dena was elected vice chairman.

Faye and Jerry Makovec enjoyed the fireworks display at the county lake Sunday evening. Jeff Makovec visited his parents this weekend.

Bud and Roseva McLinden attended the ice cream social at Florence Sunday night and the Labor Day parade Monday morning.

Weekend visitors at the Howard Collett home were Randy and Rachel Collett, Maggie and Zack, Keith and Ann Collett, Hank, Lucy, and Caroline, Carrie Collett of Olathe, Chris Parazin of Overland Park, Rick and Collette Erickson of Chapman, Liz and Kate Erickson, Elizabeth Gravenstein of Manhattan, Don Argo of El Dorado, Amy and Stephan Conley of Detroit, Mich., and Mary Elizabeth Collett.

Raymond and Rita Kraus were Saturday supper guests of Don and Vickie Kraus. Weekend houseguests of the Don Krauses were Brendon and Tina Kraus, Nick Kraus, and Krista Mercer and Colton of Topeka. The Kraus family drove out to the lake Sunday night to view the fireworks.

Christine Schwarz and Sarah and Rose Davidson viewed the fireworks at the county lake Sunday evening. Greg and Rachel went dove hunting Sunday evening. The Davidsons and Christine attended the football soap game Friday evening. Rose, Sarah, Rachel, and Christine rode horses Monday morning in the Florence Labor Day parade.

Skip and Eileen Sieger attended the funeral service of Maurice Casey last Wednesday. Eileen attended the first meeting of the year of the 20th Century Club last Monday. Skip and Eileen attended the Florence Labor Day parade on Monday.

I ate Sunday dinner with Marj and Joe Johnson, Ethan and Emily at a Chinese restaurant in Wichita following church at Fairview Christian Church.
