Youngtown morning temperatures have been under 40 degrees a couple of mornings this week. I have the furnace on a few minutes each day to take the chill off the house. Some of the trees are changing color, so we know Fall is here.

Brent and Paula Hayen of Herington and Marilyn Geis visited at the home of Dorothy and John Hayen Sunday afternoon.

Jeannine Bateman drove to Topeka Sunday afternoon and she and Kristine attended the gem and mineral show at the Expo center. Kristine is interested in making jewelry, so they enjoyed the afternoon.

Edmund Steiner and Vicki Smolik ate breakfast Sunday with the Knights of Columbus at the Tampa senior center.

David and Shirley Bowers and Carl and Lela Paden of Topeka watched Matthew Paden play in a jv soccer game Tuesday between the Berean Academy and Newton High School. Matthew is a freshman this year. Following the game they had supper together with Doug and Janelle Paden and family.

Cy and L.Dena Goertz and David and Shirley Bowers ate supper in Newton Friday night to celebrate Shirley's birthday and Cy and L.Dena's wedding anniversary. Following the meal, they went to see the new home of the Doug Paden family and visited with them.

David and Shirley Bowers were Sunday dinner guests of Greg and Mary Beth Bowers, Rhonny, Stephen, and Luke. Mary Beth gave a presentation on her plants at St. Luke Living Center on Wednesday. She tells about each plant and gives the Indian lore connected with them.

Alvina Hoffman and I ate lunch together at Florence Sunday following church at Eastmoor.

Youngtown FCE met at McGillicuddy's Tuesday noon for lunch and a short business meeting. We paid our dues for another year and voted to keep the same officers we have had for several years now. Members present were LuCretia Winkley, Gertie Mahoney, Darlene Schmidt, Lorene Smith, Roseva McLinden, and Margaret Ireland.

Joe and Ethan Johnson came Saturday to target practice and work their hunting dog out in the pasture. While here, we had lunch together and Joe connected my computer to the phone line and installed a new modem, so it now is Internet ready. So, if I can get the 800 number to take me off hold, so I can order the service, I'll be on the Internet. What a stretch from horse and buggy to Internet in one lifetime. Believe it or not, we drove a horse and buggy to school for a while and I really can hitch a horse to a buggy and a team of horses to a wagon. I taught the kids to saddle their horses, but gave up riding years ago. I like my automatic, push-button car for my mode of transportation and hope some day to feel comfortable with the computer.

Bud and Roseva McLinden went to Strong City Sunday for the annual chicken and noodle dinner, then on to Emporia to visit their niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Smith.

Leonard and Rosalie Klassen attended the Tabor College play, "The Foreigner," Sunday afternoon, then drove on to Goessel to an open house, 90th birthday party for

Eunice Heinrichs. They drove to Newton Monday afternoon for an open house for Richard and Wanda Harms.

Roger Hett of California, cousin of Roy Hett, visited at the Hett home on Thursday. Glenn and Pam Hett took Roy and Rose Olive to Topeka Saturday for the wedding of George Bales to Susan Tyson.

Visitors at the home of Faye and Jerry Makovec Tuesday evening were cousins James and Janet Blessing of Illinois. Delores and Dwayne Stroda of Herington also came to visit the Makovecs. Mr. and Mrs. Greg Cahoj of Atwood surprised Faye with a short visit at work Thursday. The Makovecs hadn't seen either family for several years so really enjoyed their visits.
