What an informative, correct letter Mr. Sklenar did write in last week's paper. More people like him need to speak up now!
How can educated, supposedly intelligent leaders of Marion community be so stupid as to turn down a money-making landfill so Marion won't be known as a "trash town" and instead, bring in another "trash" that will be a tax-draining project? This makes two tax-guzzling projects — first the over-extended school project, and now the "wonderful" plush detention center to make the sheriff, his increasing number of employees, and the delinquent population more comfortable. Marion should be able to rent/sell all the older available homes to make wives and children of imported prisoners comfortable as they enjoy the heated swimming pool and over-crowd our school facilities. More taxes! Is this really making Marion grow the way we want? When will you figure out we need businesses/employment places and the type of population we want will come?
Have the "city fathers" had any competition from Hillsboro or other county towns to have this wonderful project in their industrial parks?
Hear Hillsboro laugh up its sleeve in regard to the location and still gripe about an increased sales tax.

Thank you to Rick and Vickie Turner for their generous donations to the Florence Fire Department fund-raiser.

Several have commented about the new jail and/or courtroom. It is not about the people who are in jail for a crime, it is about the safety of the people who work in the hail and check on the inmates. I just hope that somebody does not get hurt or worse. People, it is about SAFETY for everyone who works there and the safety of the inmates — not their pleasure. The building is not made for handicap people either, inmates or employees. The officers have to fight a drunk or drugged person up four flights of stairs from the booking room to the cells. Pray to God that one of them does not get hurt.

Food for thought: Why is it that our children can't read a Bible in school but they can in prison?

Do you realize you are only hurting yourself by not supporting the Florence Fire Department? They cannot operate without fund-raisers. Without a local department we would have to rely on departments from 10 miles away to respond in emergencies.

All county employees are now at 75 percent of the "mean" wage. What Dan Holub fails to say is that this "mean" wage is considered to be at poverty level.
How do you develop team building among county employees? When team members feel they are valued within the organization, team work flourishes and productivity explodes! Commissioners! Value your employees. Pay them wages that are higher than poverty level!

My farm pond has deer and turkey poop in it. I wonder if the "famous three: will give me $70,000 for water quality?

Yeah boy — the new jail will really bring in a lot of revenue for the county. Vote NO.

When a city employee uses city equipment and city time for personal jobs, that employee, as well as the supervisor, should be terminated. This has happened before.
